In my opinion it never really does get nasty in eastern Ky due to the amount of sand thats in the soil. There will always be water holes no matter if there has been rain or not. Almost all of the water holes on the KAT either have a hard bottom, shallow edges or a complete go around. Just take the time to look around and find the best line. I can’t stress this enough, always use knobby tires when riding the KAT!

Agree. I'm always amazed at the difference in soil between IN/OH slippery clay and KY tractable sand/rock.

Let's pack the place and ask for miles and miles of singletrack....and they keep all unpaved county roads open....forever. :-)

This version comes up as KAT 4 in my library/collection on BaseCamp, does that sound right?
or is it just the number of times I have downloaded the "KAT.gpx" file and BaseCamp is incrementing it automagically....?

I've never labeled any KAT files that way so it must be how many times you've downloaded them. Try deleting each one and download the latest version. I use Mapsource so I'm not sure how Basecamp handles them.

    Hi Jeff,
I've done a chunk of the Eastern section of the KAT on my old DR650 supermoto and it was wonderful. I have since transitioned to a Ural. Do you have any suggestions for big bike friendly sections I could attempt on my 1 wheel drive Ural? I'm trying to be practical about the limitations of my ride, but still want to enjoy what Kentucky has to offer. Do you know of anyone that has tried this before on a Ural?
    Thanks,
    Chuck
