Interesting. I'm keeping my eyes peeled. I used my KLR 650 to commute from Brighton to Longmont (32 miles each way, mostly highway) and it was a blast, and I want a motard that I can do the same with. Of course, 130 mile range sucks. :) The KLR got 300 miles per tank.
The 4.2 gallon tank could be a good thing. That would give me (you!) 170 miles per tank with a happy right hand.

What kind of miles are you KLX450 guys racking up before your engines are needing top end work? I'm curious about the engines (top end) lifespan as I've found a pretty killer deal locally but I'm worried about longevity. I should've kept the DRZ but I got bored with it.
I think the KLX will out perform the DRZ hands down....possibly even in the reliability stakes??
BTW who can tell me the engine oil capacity please(in liters)
I've seen drz engines let go pre maturely, but no issues with the klx450s.
I'd say that even if the klx didn't last quite as long as a drz (I believe they'll last just as long), the fun factor will compensate hands down.
Gear it properly for the riding that you'll be doing and you will be fine.
Oil capacity is 1.1 or 1.2 quarts I believe (I know you're looking for liters).

This bike has been performed flawlessly since new in 2009, and makes for a great DS where you can plate them. It is a shame they no longer import them to the U.S. but they still make them for other markets (The 2014 Aussie bike is the same) so parts are never an issue and most pieces exchange with the motocrosser KX.
I dig mine! A little over 3000 miles on her and still on stock chain, only changes are oil and tires! Mods are GPR stabilizer, Factory Connection suspension, GPS hook-up, EBC Oversize front brake rotor (an excellent update by the way), Unabiker Rad guards, Flatland Skid, Gian loop bags, Wolfman tube bag, Carb mod by Jett tuning (Runs excellent from sea level to 10,700...I don't know how, but it does! - Pic is at 10,400), FMF Q4 and header.
Friends that have ridden this bike all like it and some go in search of their own! Not sure why they no longer import them! They are great bikes.
Although this thread looks like it's fading away, I wonder if any owners of the KX450 could compare it with the DRZ400S. Is the KX pretty high strung (not much low - mid range torque?) and I'm also interested in the amount of leg room. I'm looking for about 22" from the top of the foot peg to the to of the seat. How about suspension and handling in tighter rocky terrain?
Probably BS reasons within CARB and the EPA for stupid emissons reasons,can we export both of them to Siberia?
Can any off you tell me what year KX header fits on the 08-09 KLX. I would like to simplify filter changes.

Hi everyone, Just got a new KLX450R and on my first ride found that the front tire has lots of vibration at 70km and above.
I tried a 250 its much smother.
any thoughts what I should do? is it normal ?
Balance the wheel/tire combo on the 450.
Got the bike to the dealer, they lifted the bike and said that the wheel is ok.( the wheel was not removed off the bike)
the vibration is still there.
at 70-80 km/h the bike will vibtarte then for 2 second vibration will stop the it will come back.
is it a balacing problem or something else.
