(8 Nov. 2014) I started this thread over a year ago as a single day trip RR but it morphed into a running journal of travels in my new home of Idaho. I guess ride reports are the 21st century version of scratching "Kilroy was here" in a feeble stab at immortality. Anyway, I love taking pictures and I hope that these will be enjoyed and maybe spur you, gentle reader, into posting your own so I can drool away the cold season.

    Back to August 2013:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Got a new set of shoes for the wee so had to test them out. 114 miles of dirt. Got a Heidi Scout rear and a Kenda Big Block front and they worked great. But after 6500 miles on the TrailSlicks anything would have been an improvement.

HQ is Idaho Falls so a quick trip to the east was in order.

Went out Sunnyside Road: (No Tilting)

    Down into Falls Creek:

Along the Snake River across the valley from the main highway.

To the Pallisades Reservoir (less than 20% full - what climate change?)

    On up Bear Creek:

    To Jensen Creek:

    Which leads to Jensen Pass:

    Geezer,
I was up that way a month ago and was amazed at the difference in greenery between there and down in the valley (Idaho Falls). Next time you go up, give me a call…I'm in Ammon…need to get out more on my DR650.

Cool ride. I'm coming back from a ride to Flaming Gorge right now... amazing geology! Going to do Grey's River Road to Alpine tomorrow. Probably just run back to I.F. on hwy 26 after doing Grey's River Rd. Sure would like to explore the country between Palisades and I.F. more though. Looks like a great route you did there. Congrats...
Hey, ...how much does the Wee weigh? The pucker factor on my heavy r1200GS is a little tense in gravel at times! I'm thinking I need a lighter bike for more close-in regional dirt runs.

I think it's about 100lb. less than the big guy. Also I think lower center of gravity. On gravel roads it's much steadier than my old XR650L. That was twitchier than a meth freak looking for a fix. But the XR was way up in the air and to be fair it was designed for going flat out over barren desert which the wee could never pretend to do.

About 6am Sunday decided to prowl again so probably not a good time to call anyone. Anyway this time went out the Taylor Creek Road, follow the Ammon road until it turns to dirt then peel off at the sign, then up through some farm country. Notice the nicely polished marbles instead of the bone road golf balls.

On the way I saw two wild turkeys! (No, not the bare nikked idjits driving hogs up and down 17th) Not fast enough with the camera.

    Then down into Wolverine Canyon.

    And up over the top

Down Stellars Creek and onto the open range on Blackfoot Reservoir road.

    Onto the Paradise Road:

Didn't get any pics of the Brush Creek Road on account of two idjits riding 4wheelers side by side. A lot of people bad mouth ABS brakes on dirt but I stopped - RIGHT NOW. "Sorry" grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Hooked in to the Blackfoot River Road and followed it to Wolverine Canyon.

Which tied in to the Taylor Creek Road again and back home.

Lotsa purty flars on the trip

    Proceeded thusly
    [IMG]

Kinda slacked off though, only 85 miles of dirt...

Took them 3 days to pack our stuff and now that it's here we've been unpacking for 2 weeks. Not a lot of riding.

One morning sneakaway to Dan Creek east of IF.

Then today went on a scouting trip out into the Arco Desert west of Idaho Falls.
Small trail around Hell's Half Acre lava flow. Pretty rocky especially for a wee. Glad I had a bash plate.

Side road off the highway looking west, East Butte, Middle Butte, and Big Southern Butte.

Was going to the lookout on top and found a limitation of the Heidenau Rear. That solid center band gave no traction on the gravel when it got really steep. (40% grade) Looked like I might get into pickmeup country and flying solo, turned around...

East Butte (R) and Middle Butte on my way out

Started to get kinda crowded so I split for home.

    Cool pictures.
I ride those areas a lot, but I've never been out to Hell's Half Acre or tried to ride behind the Buttes.
Looks like I gotta go check it out...

    Thanks for reminding me.

Met up with FloorPoor on Labor Day morning and hit the slab to Arco. From there to a secret pass over to Antelope Valley. Up over Bear Creek summit, down and up Left Fork of Cherry Creek and up to Antelope Pass. From there, down the Burma Road to MacKay for greasy burgers and from there to Pass Creek. A little poking around and on into the Pahsimeroi and slab to Mud Lake and another secret short cut to US20 and our respective domiciles.

Had a bit of rain that basically just kept the dust down. A bit overcast but was clearing by the time we made it to Pass Creek Summit. Then the haze was from all the forest fires in the west. Not so purtygood for landscape pics...

Pass Creek is just a slot in the mountains, looks like limestone. FloorPoor's muliebike:
winds a way and opens to a small vallely then climbs up to the pass itself

There was a herd of antelope, got one look at FloorPoor and his accomplice and set to putting tracks behind them. Sadly no pics.

About 300 miles and about half dirt so my ratio dropped a bit...

Thanks for putting the pics up, it was a good day. By my count I had 330 miles from my house back to my house, and I did get to sneak in an extra 8 or 10 miles of dirt on my way back home :D, I'll have to show you that road too. I hope my work schedule allows us to ride again soon. I'm thinking next time we head southeast.
