When out of warranty, would you rather pay for a repair on a Corvette or any of the German, Italian, English super cars ?

Great point. You can add Japanese cars to that question, too (ever bought parts for those things?). I love my Vette. I love my Subie, too. The BMW, not so much. In fact, I don't think hte German, Italian, English, or Japanese cars have to be super cars. Their parts are priced at ridiculous levels even on the standard models.

After 8 years, I still haven't had to buy parts for the Subie, so I can't comment on their costs. I have had to buy parts for our other Japanese cars (Nissan, Honda, and Acura), and I was shocked at the cost.

The BMW ownership experience has been grand larceny. We'll never have another BMW (can't rotate the tires, can't machine the discs, $1100 brake jobs, $300 front end alignments, gouging stealerships, etc., etc., etc.). Their "four years of free maintenance" basically came down to 2 or 3 oil changes (and they wanted us to go 20K miles between oil changes).

Good point, but which interior would you rather be sitting in on those 360 days when your car isn't in the shop?

You mistook my statement! I mean to say that folks thought the Corvette wasn't much of a looker before. Everyone loves the R8 :evil

I think the Corvette handles pretty good, even compared to most super cars.

It's a longish clip, but pay attention to the last few minutes.

I just wish the would have shut the fuck and let me listen to the motors. Particularly that Viper.

Oh and long, but lots of gory detail and a fair amount of gear head porn.

I've traditionally been a Japanese sports car fan / owner but growing up around the Motor City you'd have to be dead, dumb and buried not to love muscle cars and America's sports cars (Viper, Corvette, and my all time favourite the Ford GT).

The latest crop of American muscle has me tempted. The Camaro rocks. The Mustang GT500 oozes cool and the Corvette Stingray really has me Thinking.

I wasn't looking at the latest version Stang or top level Camaro to be happy. The 1st gen GT500 or 1st level V8 Camaro will suit me fine. But the Stingray really seems to have my number.

The only other option that is looming is a Viper... used prices are incredible.

The 1st gen GT500's are a steal for what you get. Granted, the interior on gen II is nicer as are the suspension improvements, but you can easily find 1st gen examples with mods that the original owner had $60k in for a fraction of the price. That's what I did.

    Pretty much my plan.

Really its more like wait till the C6 Z06's start hitting the lot from the guys that must have a C7 and snatch one of them. I can be very, very patient when it comes to 500hp sport cars.

Don't forget to check the Vendor's section of Corvetteforum. My C5 was discounted over 20% by Les Stanford and the three other big volume Vette dealers as soon as the C6 was announced. I had my choice of 300 on the lot. I rented a car for about $60 one way and drove the Vette home. I'm sure they are doing the same to the C6s now.
CF also showed me that many mint "garage queens" were actually built, raced, and returned to stock for trade in. There were enough guys doing that so I bought new instead.
