Private party, trade in, whichever....you are buying a used car and have no idea how those miles were put on. Go look at the Forced Induction section of Corvetteforum. You will see plenty of guys putting the stock cam, exhaust, shifters, tires,...back on their cars and selling the high performance parts in the parts for sale section. I bought my first blower from a guy like that. I'm sure the second owner of his car was amazed at what great shape his stock tires were in. The pair of slicks he never saw, well good thing he didn't see them. In '03 I almost made the mistake myself until someone PMed me that the low mileage Vette I was asking about had seen many 1/4 mile passes and was only stock for a little while, and then again when I was considering buying it. I've seen threads dedicated to how to remove the rubber from the back wheel wells. Low miles sometimes = 1/4 mile at a time.

I'm no drag strip guy nor do I pretend to be, but isn't there better options to funnel monies towards a motor, than buying a new Vette and bolt on go fast parts? In my mind early Vettes were go straight cars, you can actually turn the C6. :ear

Last hijack- After about 4 years of ownership I found 350 HP was not enough. (I did buy the car for the handling and have put about 55,000 miles on it.) I have an old thread on CF when I pulled the entire driveline and built it. The only things stock are the crank, block, and rods. I do not drag it at all because I find that boring. 720 HP is fun to play with in all circumstances, even the twisties. It's also fun to light 'em up at 65MPH when a Civic revs on me while going down the highway.
(BTW- I'm my own secret Santa.)

that stigma did follow the Vette around for several years. I've sensed a sea change here in the last few years though. I know of a good many 20 something dudes that are rocking the C5's and 6's. Some this lingering attitude may be regional. I can't say for sure.

I think one would only need to look at the Corvette interior to be swayed towards something Japanese or European. Believe me, if GM kept up with the European or Japanese interior ergonomics or "look-and-feel", there would be many more 20 and 30-somethings driving Corvettes.
