My ride buddies and I typically meet up from all over the West at various race events at least once a year. Laguna Seca at Monterey for the World GP, or Miller Motorsports in Utah for the World Superbike. This year a few of us decided on a week long trip instead. The trip shouldnt take anywhere near an entire week, but that will be dependent on alcohol consumption in the evenings and what time we drag our asses up to ride.
Chad, Bert and Tim, sorry you couldnt make this one, probably for the best as I am quite sure Tim will get us pulled in every county we cross into, as he wheelies past the local L.E. Since I will be on the slower bike this time, I prefer not to be used as bait.
The trip will take us through McCall and Lolo pass in Idaho, to Missoula, and Glacier Natl park. Yellowstone, Jackson, Stanley, and back to Boise in search of the best twisties. We have a general route in mind, but that is subject to change at any given moment.
We decided early on to camp most of the way, with ocassional motel stays, Jackson for sure. I mean, we cant very well go through there without hitting the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.
    The culprits, in what is sure to be criminal activity (speeding anyway) are as follows;

DONOVAN- He no longer rides this Triumph and instead will be on his Kawasaki ZX-14. BUt I couldnt resist posting this old picture from a previous road trip in Northern Ca.

KEVIN- Will be on his Yamaha R-1, and already has concerns about tickets as he mentioned to me on the phone last night. Kevin will into Boise today from Aspen. He loaded his bike into his truck and will truck it to Boise. we will unload it tonight and tomorrow morning kickstands up no later than 0800.

DAVE- (me)- I will be riding my KTM 990 Adventure.

The decision to ride the KTM over my Aprilia Mille was tough one, but in the interest of comfort, and hopefully not quite as much hooliganism (defined- wheelies, knee to the pavement, and a very good chance of tickets and a possible ride to a county jail) I opted on the KTM, plus I can carry way more, and while not quite as agressive in the twisties, still damn fun!
This is the Aprilia that lost out on this ride, a Colin Edwards race replica. so sad, but again in the interest of not going to jail somewhere...........

Along the ride other friends will join in for small portions of twisties for the day and I will introduce them that day in this ride report. I will also likely include emberassing pictures from previous rides....you know who Im talking about dont you STEVEN. Oh, and Steven....please try to not crash a bike this time.

So, stay tuned, this thread will be picture heavy, and if I can figure it out I will embed video from my gopro too.

    .........and let the fun begin!
So Steven, rather than post up on the forum, e-mailed me directly....here is how that conversation went. If he keeps it up I will post the pics as well.

STEVEN-"Ha ha ha. I can see this is going to be an epic ride already, just from all the intro you posted. I know why you chose the ktm now too...afraid you can't hang with the real bikes anymore, you chose a slow one so you wouldn't have to make excuses ;)"

ME-"Thats enough from you, Tumbleina." (referencing Stevens multiple crashes, with no noted barriers, sand, oil, wild animals, and of course...dogs, as though Steven just decided to take a nap while riding)) )

STEVEN-"Excuse me sir, have you seen my little puppy. Oh wait...YOU CRASHED ON TOP, OF HIM" (reference to my crash a few months back, when cujo attacked me and my bike)
    link-http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=770617

ME-"Thats right. Keep hiding behind the individual e-mails rather than post up on ADVRIDER, where I will impose swift justice and retribution upon you in a public forum through evidence in the means of numerous implicating photos."

...........and that was the last I heard from Mr. Reel.

The bike has new shoes, all fluids checked, GPS routes input and reset.
Im all packed up now and ready to go.
I tend to overpack for these trips to include cold/heated gear, wet weather gear, several sets of gloves. Although I wont likely need a lot of that, Ive been caught too many times without, and all of sudden its isnt fun anymore, but truly an adventure.

Kevin rolled into Boise at 2300 like expcted, but after a 12 hr. drive from Aspen just wanted to decompress and go to bed. Tomorrow we will unload the bike at zero dark early, pack and hit the road.

MMMMM....BEEEER! Not good beer, but after 12 hours of driving, any beer is good. Kevin also drank the last glass of beer off the keg before it started sputtering, good thing we leave first thing in the morning.

After lots of coffee this A.M. we are finally ready to roll out.

Kevin and Donovan early on in the ride at Smiths Ferry.

The lake at McCall, lake Payette.

The three of us at Payette Lake in McCall......notice everyone is still smiling that was about to change when we hit the high temps of Riggins Idaho.

We stopped in Whitebird and considered riding the old twisty highway but based on the amount of sand, etc on the road in we decided against it. But we found this Veterans Park with this memorial stone just placed there last year. Donovan and I got a picture next to it.

So after a hard, hot day in the saddle these two yahoos have to find the most uncomfortable place to sit at the gas station in Grangeville.

I was going to post up my GPS top speed of the day, but decided that it wouldnt be too smart to hand over evidence in a public forum. Oh well, lets just say it was fast for the big dirt bike, in fact at one point passing the big Ninja on the inside through one corner.
    Take that Donovan.

We arrived safely at Steven and Michelles house in Oroifino, unbeknownst to us they had already planned dinner and had us set up to stay. I think Steven is trying to bribe me. Ok, Steven I promise I wont post those pictures I mentioned earlier.

Steven and Michelle will also be riding with us tomorrow over Lolo Pass to Missoula.

Gunga Galunga, thanks for the heads up, apparently my buddy here in Orofino is very familiar with that officer. We will be very cautious as we cross through there today. We had one near miss yesterday, about 5 miles south of Orofino. Local sheriff was somewhat hidden as we crested a hill. Fortunately I was heading this redline express out, and saw him first and adjusted accordingly.

Steven and Michelle made us all breakfast this morning and after a couple of pots of coffee we were ready to go! Thanks again guys for the hospitality.

Lolo pass, 55.....yeah something like that.

Steven wanted to stop at a place on Lolo pass to inquire where the Trooper might be, as it turns out he pulled in shortly after us.Heck of a nice guy, and we never saw him again, lucky for us.

Notice the big ZX-14 is in my rearview. Come on Donovan, waiting on you sweetheart!

We stopped for lunch at Lochsa lodge, good food, and just a neat place overall.

Here is a shot looking back at Kevin and Donovan.

We quickly caught a group of a group of riders on Vakleries from Alaska, no problem, they were treated much like a rolling chicane.

Right now we are in Missoula and dont expect to get wifi this evening, but if so we will upload more pics and hopefully some of the vids.

Hope everyone is enjoying so far. More to come, tomorrow we will be in Glacier.
