I have never followed a file does it warn you turn by turn like going in Automode

or just head to a way point

I assume most are now just using their phones

I have Montana, which is a big brother to Oregon, it's terrible for navigation, IF you manage to enter correct address (which is nearly impossible, easier to find a spot on the map and drop a "pin") it still only beeps when you come to the turning point, no voice prompts. When following a trail you got to watch the screen and follow the line, no prompts.

I never followed a file on the phone, I know Maat has some software that only works on iPhones, so I followed him, pretty sure there were no prompts of any kind, just followed the line.

Probably not the right thread for this, but Rob will be generating a track not a route. Which means you will have a "line" on a map you follow. In practice this will be easier to use than you might think, because you only need to look at it at trail intersections. And then after the 3rd or 4th time around the loop on your own you'll know where to turn and won't need it anymore.

I have a Garmin GSMAP60csx. small screen, but I have no trouble following a track, as long as I don't zoom in too close. If you want to use a smart phone, these 2 links will help you. Most people seem to be using phones now and you can pick up a cheap used phone for navigation on ebay and they make some great holders.
My understanding is that the phone will work without a call plan, they have the gps built in and will work like a GPS unit (no cost per month)

Rob, how much more accurate is the new track than the "98% legit" route I got from you at a camp and ride a while back? That old route works well. I still get lost occasionally. I'd be interested in getting the new updated one.

    Thanks, Dave (on the drz)

My Oregon has auto mode which provides normal looking turn coming up and arrows etc.
I do assume it wont do that on a trail track, I think I like the idea of getting a cell phone for this purpose

It's basically the same, I was just missing the Green Falls Water Crossing section. I actually have the GPS ready to go right now, I just wanted to re-ride it and make some waypoints before I release it. I don't want to do revisions. One and done.
