OK... I'm stepping out of the closet. I'm passionate about photography and I've been smitten with the iPhone Camera. The day may arrive when a great camera and a great phone share the same real estate but that day is not yet here. The iPhone, by all serious photographic standards, pretty much blows as a camera. Still, I have be taken by its' charms... a significant one being that it is the most portable of all my boxes, and therefore can almost always be found in one of my pockets. Perhaps the biggest of it's charms is the very thing that most consider its' greatest weakness... the fact that it is not a very serious camera. I often think that I get too serious about taking pictures. The iPhone tends to lighten me up a whole bunch. I seem to have fun with it the way i did when i was banging off images with my old Polaroid SX 70, which like the iPhone has some serious limitations. As i become more acquainted with the iPone camera, i find myself exploiting the camera's weaknesses... hopefully for good. This includes sharpening the images a great deal ... thus exaggerating the grain and making the whole image feel like severely pushed film. I think is it possible to get some wonderful, painterly results with the thing. So here are a bunch of shots I've taken with the thing. If you've got images you like, taken with your iPhone, or perhaps techniques for using the thing, post 'em up I know I'm the not the only fan out here.
