Just purchased a 05 Sv-1000S and was thinking of removing snorkel and opening airbox up, has anyone here done any of these mods.

Bike has Dual Leo Vince and PC3 with factory mapping

    Thanks

Do a thread search over at svrider.com. Surely it has been done.

I found some stuff and went ahead with it, amazing how resticting the factory set-up is. Rear wheel bearing is next . . . Ugh

Anyone had a chance to ride/own both ER6F (Ninja 650R) and SV650 maybe?

Would be interesting to hear about the differences, other then the obvious
SV650S clip-on stuff (especially since I'm interested in the naked one only).

(I owned the 650R for 5 years and put 20k miles on it, was not happy with suspension
and vibrations, not crazy about brakes either but they were adequate).

Cool thread guys! It really helped me make my decision on buying a '06 sv650s on friday. I had bought a full Arrow titanium system before I purchased the bike(optimism) , but will I need a Power Commander to go with it since it's an open loop fuel injection system? Or will it be fine until for a while? thanks in advance:ear

Why are the sv650's with abs so few and far between?

Typically a fullsystem should have the fuel delivery corrected and a dyno day to work well.

Just a slipon works fine usually without any work. Some full systems have significant difference from stock in the header portion as far as flow.

So a couple months ago I bought my first bike, a '99 naked SV650. After about three hours of ownership, tragedy struck when some d-bag pulled out immediately in front of me, and I promptly grabbed too much front brake and dropped it. :cry
The SV's brakes definitely aren't the touchiest out there, but they were a lot more than what I was used to (some dualsports and the nighthawk 250s from the MSF course).

Anyway, I've spent the last two months fixing all the little things that resulted from the crash, and riding it whenever possible. Replaced the bent bars and had a shop align the front end. Replacement bars were too wide and tweaked the choke cable; choke cable kept making the engine die in sharp low-speed turns, and quickly led to a fouled spark plug.
I installed a trailtech vapor to replace my busted tach, but accidentally caused a few short circuits and blown fuses along the way (I'm no electrician).

In the last week though, I've gotten the bike running as well as the day I rode it off the lot - if not better! When my financial situation improves, the next order of business will have to be suspension modifications.

Pics for clicks: the SV next to my buddy's Z1000, near the end of a ride on the Peak to Peak hwy in CO.

Looks like my crankcase breather oil catch right below the airbox is leaking a little oil. Crappy cell phone night time pic -->

Is it time for a new filter / sponge? Where can I find one? Anyone have a part number?

    Thanks

Well 07 was the first year for abs, so it had 2 years basically, also the sv is kinda a cheap get into the sport bike so for me i wouldn't have bothered the increased price to have abs.

Yeah i don't think i'd sell mine to upgrade for abs, it does fine without, no i a few years i'd like to get like a fjr and that i'd want to have abs since i would have passengers probaly.

I test drove another inmate's FJR while deciding and it felt surprisingly light and similar to my 04 sv. It was an 05 with abs.

Brakes, who needs them; they only slow you down.

On the first Gen S model. Has anyone just put the clip-ons above the triple clamp? Seems like a simple solution.
Did that help unload the wrists for a better riding position? Are they wide enough for good leverage?
