Greetings! There's a group of us from Las Cruces & El Paso that will be joining this year. Really looking forward to it. Any suggestions on where we can tent camp close to the Pelican Spa? We want to be near the activities.... thanks!

The closest place to tent camp is in Elephant Butte Lake State Park. I did that a couple years ago. Sort of annoying having to ride into town every morning, but much cheaper than staying in town. It can get a little cold at night so bring warm sleeping gear.

Staying in town for $44 a night is worth the convenience.

The plan is to start checking out old routes and looking for new ones next week. Experience has shown that just because a route was easy last year doesn't mean it still is. Summer rains may have changed things considerably. We will keep this thread posted when we have more current information.

As Bill indicated, we will be pre-riding starting this weekend. I anticipate that we will be offering most, if not all, of the same routes as last year but we also plan on introducing some "new" options for your riding enjoyment.

Also planning on "pre-riding" the new brewery in T or C. I know, I know.....the sacrifices we make...but we do it for the riders!

This weather will certainly make the terrain more interesting. I heard T or C got 1.8 inches of rain the other day.

A last reminder that TODAY is the last day to receive an official RCR performance shirt as part of your registration package. Due to production time for the shirts, the order must go into to the shirt supplier tomorrow morning. We will continue to take registrations up until we fill the 100 rider limit but no shirts after the end of today.

Don't get left out....all the cool kids will have them!

First day of pre-riding today. Sheesh! What a day. It has been raining (a lot) in T or C this past week. It rained again last night and it must of been pretty heavy. We rode out on Lost Hills Road today and found the road to be missing:

We did get a little scouting in on a "new" loop after several hours of picking our way through the muddy rubble, including lifting the bikes out of mud, quicksand, etc. From the fresh debris, we estimate that the water was 10-12 feet deep in the canyon last night. It made for quite the day.

We had better luck pre-riding the new brewery in T or C tonight:

We are thinking we need to do more testing tomorrow night. We wouldn't want to rush to a hasty judgment!!!

Headed up Chloride Creek tomorrow to see if the rains worked their magic there also.....

Trailworks didn't mention the missing road/arroyo was still running while we were scouting.

A great day of pre-riding today!

First, despite all of the rain the T or C area has received in the last week, Chloride Canyon is in really great shape. [IMG] And, like always, the canyon is just beautiful:

We also rode a "new" optional leg on the Chloride Canyon loop that we have decided to call "The Nash Cut-Off". Why the strange name you ask?

The day was too young to head back to town so we rode another very interesting new loop in the vicinity of Springtime Campground. While definitely not suitable for the novice level that we had intended, we know the intermediate/advanced crowd will find this new loop a real delight. In addition to challenging terrain, the scenery is among the best we have offered:

Here are a couple shots from our scouting trip.
Day 1: ADVrider76 riding some rocks on Lost Hills Road/arroyo.. This gives a little perspective on the size of the rocks.
    IMG_0905.JPG

Day 2: Chloride Canyon with a new side detour
    IMG_0925.JPG
The exit of the new short loop below Springtime Campground. The shadows are getting long and we are happy to see someone did a little improvement on the exit road. It was definitely a challenging loop. If you look close Trailworks and ADVrider76 are out there somewhere. IMG_0926.JPG

Day 3: Broadhurst road? We hoped it would connect to the Lost Hills loop, but a washout stopped our progress. Looking back the on way we came in. IMG_0930.JPG

It is going to be a blast!

Looks great guys! Do you have any mileage figured out for the proposed loops yet? Not sure if I need to upgrade my tank size....
