    The phone call you never thought you would get
    Saturday morning I got an urgent phonecall and voice mail from my dad and brother to call them ASAP. It was my brother and it was the worst.

    I have no idea why he was riding without a helmet. Maybe it is the difference from dying on scene and dying a week later in ICU, maybe it was the difference between living and dying, I will never know.

    My heart is so broken.....

    Here is the news report;

    A 45-year-old Alamogordo man was killed Friday night after he struck an elk while riding his motorcycle west of Tularosa, a New Mexico State Police spokesman said.
    Sgt. Emmanuel T. Gutierrez said Brian Miller was killed while riding his 2011 Honda motorcycle westbound on U.S. Highway 70 near mile marker 208 around 9 p.m. Friday.
    Gutierrez said Miller was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
    "An elk entered the highway from the north side of the road," he said. "Miller did not take any evasive action and immediately impacted with the elk. Miller was ejected from the motorcycle. Miller was pronounced deceased at the scene by a field deputy from the Office of the Medical Investigator. We've had a handful of these motorcycle versus elk or deer crashes that have resulted in death. The last one that occurred was in Catron County last summer. In Catron County, the motorcyclist struck a deer. He was ejected from the motorcycle as well and killed."
    Gutierrez said he believes motorcyclists need to be more aware when traveling on rural roads.
    "It's the risk they take when riding a motorcycle," he said. "It's the same risk drivers take when traveling in a vehicle, but a vehicle offers them a little more protection."
    Holloman Air Force Base Col. Andrew Croft told the Daily News

    Condolences and prayers. I got one of those calls in 1984 on my brother and another one in 2007 on my son. It is hard to process.

    My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this tough time. If anything good can come out of a situation such as this, it might be the fact that this might make someone else think twice before heading out without ATGATT.

    God bless...

    Condolences. I don't know your brother, but feel like I was there with him since I have ridden that stretch of road in the evening and driven it at night, and seeing an elk would be well-nigh impossible until they jump onto the road in many places. Hopefully some good will come out of this by increasing the rest of our situational awareness rules, especially at night.

    Deepest condolences. I've had my run-ins with wild game, and have also lost a brother long before his time. Y'all take care of each other, you hear?

    Thank you for all of the kind responses.

    ADV has been my second family for a long time. It is just a really hard time, I just want to ride and never stop right now. I keep playing this song over and over in my head, It really reminds me of him and who he was. Career Air Force, motorcyclist, 4x4, rock climber, trying to get on with Space X, ever since we were kids he dreamed about going into space.... I hope he made it to the farthest star in the farthest galaxie! God Speed
