The Robertstown Rally is renown for its high speed, high flying action.

Having dabbled in the sport myself in years gone by, when one would start a 500km rally around 5pm & finish around 6am the next morning, plotting the route on the run from map grid references :deal given to you as you start the competitive stages :pynd (ie before pace notes )

... and knowing the over 1/3 of a tonne (gross), monster of my TDM has been the only thing that has comes close without spending big $$$, to delivering the similar sense of thrill & excitement, throwing it around dirt roads at speed, I went in search of a "Big Smile" for myself. :D

I met PopeDog (DaveP) on his newly acquired DR650 & KymW with his Aprilia, early on a clear, cold, sunny winters morning to blacktop it to Birdwood to catch-up with Kano650 for hot warming coffee at the famous Lovells Bakery.

Everyone agreed it was a choice meeting spot :clap

Kano was complaining he wished he had a neck warmer, when some bright spark suggested :evil

.......... lucky no one was carrying any scissors or it could have turned into a KKK ride :lol3

After temperature rose in our bodies, we headed north "as the crow flies" enjoying some absolutely picturesque, undulating farming countryside to Truro, where the Sunrise Bakery lived up to its name. :evil

It was here that Kano realised the added benefits of his new neck warmer :lol3

With clear skies, full bellies, great steeds .................................... we little brown bears were happy with our world :rayof

Although looking at the display cabinet, I became concerned that the steed on the right may be a omen of what was to come. :eek1

Leaving Truro, we enjoyed further, often hard to find tracks, with scenic views

    .... and others without

    Before letting loose  .............:pynd

Despite the shitty photography everyone enjoyed the thrill of sizable air. :rayof

We then came across the famous "Lost City of the Wombats" .......................................... lost underground that is :poser

Dave thought he saw one & went to drop in for a chat :bueller

    Where'd he go ? :huh

................. can't see him down here either :shog but he eventually reappeared refreshed :*sip*

The tracks became tighter and the riding intensity grew :evil

...... as did the temperature and "personal comfort" adjustments were needed :lol3

Someone mentioned Mount (in') Mary at that point. :huh

MB, always enjoy reading your reports - particularly the bakery parts! If you are not already in their employ, you should speak to SA Tourism about a job.. :evil I always thought SA was full of soft sand :eek1

As the tracks opened up our mouths grew dry and we high tailed it to the Mount Mary Hotel to kick back a few thirst quenching refreshments :freaky

Secret discussions about possible future routes were underway at the outside table.

When we noticed we were being spied upon, so we waved back :wave

Unfortunately the day was vanishing fast and Kano was forced to return home early for child minding duties while the rest of us rugged up to go in search of those infamous Rally Roads.
Do you like my bright new shiny replacement riding gear ? :D :toney

Only had it stuffed in a wardrobe for the last 3 years since my Flinders Classic roo killing incident. Always thought it was too clean to get dirty :lol3

Eventually we reached our objective :rilla .... and the fun began :ricky

Dave came screaming around a corner, suddenly skidding to a halt ... "what's that camera doing in MB's hand?" :eek1

"What the heck, that doesn't look too bad, besides a DR can handle that shit easy" :D

.............................. obviously forgetting about that steed in the Truro bakery. :p3rry

It was all a hoax actually :evil just to keep him on his toes as he sailed through safely.

    We continued on :ricky

Experiencing the occasional slippery corner :D

Finally pausing to catch our breath & take in the view.

Unfortunately as I said before, the time had just vanished & I had only just scratched the surface of the tracks identified (well thank god, not really actually :bow)

We were forced to call it a day in fading light as dust started kicking up.

Great day, :clap great mates :freaky & great fun :webers

...... and an even greater likelihood of returning to ride the rest of these fabulous "big bike" rally roads in the very near future. :evil

PS for anyone interested, the next Robertstown Rally is this 27th July. Google search for details.

Wash your mouth out! The 'Pink Panther' was one of the most iconic rally cars to ever grace the SA Rally scene. It almost had a cult following. People still talk about it to this day.

And MB got to ride in it, all I can say is :tb

Joan Miller, husband Stan.....nice people too.

They had one of the speedway cars knocked off in the 80's and I got it back for them.

Hey MB, store up those trails mate, that looks like a nice day out using the Hollows as a base!! BTW, full approval for the TJ and BS shipping container...
