That was a bit harsh wasn't it? I mean it's not my cup of tea either but you don't see me throwing insults at the people who are brave enough to admit publicly that they like it.

Come to think of it there are quite a few HDs with names that double as insults: shovelhead, panhead, knucklehead, FatBoy, FatBob, lard-ass, knuckle-dragger... I may have made up those last two. Maybe it's Harleys idea of dual-purpose.

Discussed here before...but I think today's definition of a scrambler started with the late sixties "street scrambler" term, which was used to differentiate a new class of street bikes with high pipes from the previous off-road race bikes that used this term and before the name "MX" was popularized for that role.

Ya, I don't know what you call it, but I guess you could scramble around on it...

Certainly don't need to worry about jumping curbs.

Determined not to get lapped yet again by the kid on the KTM 85, Kyle gave the big bike everything it had, producing a roost almost as long as his lap times...

Whiny old fuck alert. Surely a scrambler MUST have fenders/mudguards that keep the majority of dirt/mud off the rider and a seat that you can move around on, and surely ADVRiders (aka older generation who remember what scramblers actually are, mostly) would be in the best position to judge if a bike's actually a scrambler, moreso than hipsters?

Put a real seat and front guard on that thing and it'd be pretty good.

There's a reason that competitive scramblers/motocrossers have been almost entirely lightweight, skinny, single cylinder bikes with highly developed suspensions for the last fifty years or so - it's what works. The suspension in particular is key, as all of us here who witnessed the start of the long travel revolution in the early to mid seventies will remember. It took a few years to get the bugs out but dirt bike performance took a giant leap forwards and the sport was changed forever.

And that's what makes this fat turd of a bike so ridiculous - can you imagine trying to ride the whoops on that? Let alone even a small jump. It'd be banging and clanking and bottoming while trying to buck the rider off. And that's going slow. Too much weight, not enough suspension, simply the wrong tool for the job. The silly seat and lack of a fender are incidental but serve a kind of purpose as a dickhead alert I think.

It's a great photo though, and I guess the builders of these bikes will continue to take photos of them in action poses. Just watch out for those smart-ass kids on their little KTMs and YZs - they'll bring you back to reality in no time.

    Yeah, I'm another WOF...

    Come onnnn!
Who here would seriously turn down a ride on that bike (or any bike in this thread)? Looks fun to me. Yes , heavy, doesn't have Beta 300RR suspension but thats part of the fun.
