    Hey Kymbo, good to see you're still out there.

    I've got the standard tank with 22 on board, plus another 34 in the sidecar tank, and running the two staintunes I get better consumption out of the holden ute:shog:eek7:patch around the 10 litres /100kms or close to 600 per tank though I've never ridden it to empty. They're a thirsty bike anyway and there's a big difference in consumption between 95k/hr and 110k/hr. Still more grins per km than the ute though eh.:D

    Talkin' around the traps. Everybody gets around 10 k's to the litre. Some get 100 k's out of ten litres and some use one litre to get 10 k's. Quite a lot of sidecarists get 28.5 miles to the imperial gallon.

    Morning ,yes suzuies love drink i have gone 2 teeth down from standard gearing.Iam going putt standard sprocket back on.Hope this helps also get on mechanic repap or buy a,plug and play tunning system not cheep.But cost fuel

    g,day clancy come across new photos screen. On my own trip i had stop and adjust my screen you seem rely got yours jacked up.
    Does the air come under between gap i , thought about making a insert so i could raise my own screen stop any air .

    Same as Clancy.

    My GSX1400 outfit would get an average of 10 kms per litre.
    Worst I had was about 8.8k/l and best was 13.5.
    To get that last figure I sat on 95-100 with a strong tailwind.

    Worst figure was into a headwind sitting above 100kph.

    To be honest, one of the reasons I sold it.

    Lots of fun but I couldn’t get my head around fuel consumption figures like that.
    Maybe I am a closet Greenie ? :dunno

    To go anywhere outback I was hauling so much spare fuel and if you sat on the speed limit or slightly above you were lucky to make it Roadhouse to Roadhouse on the Nullarbor without stopping to top up.

    No mate, I don't seem to be getting air through the gap - bit of water if it's raining hard but that would come through if the gap was small - so I'm guessing air comes through but I don't notice it. Reason for the screen being a bit high is to get the airflow going over the top of my helmet. Any lower than that and It stats buffeting and gets a bit uncomfortable.

    Cheers all,i rode up with mate on solo. 2 quorn.Normaly i sit on a slower speed ,butt had keep up looked up the engine remap.
    Not cheap$520 reconds if you fitted after market exhust.This can remap change fuel/air ratio? Cheers have a good wk end

    Ok, school me on sidecars. I was thinking about these, so I did some searching on here.

    In my eyes, a motorcycle with a sidecar can't lean, and it can't fit through narrow spots. These are the two advantages a motorcycle has over, say, a Jeep, or an SUV with the windows rolled down. Of course, I feel like the disadvantages of a motorcycle (it gets cold and wet!) are still present with the sidecar.

    So I am wondering, why would you prefer a sidecar rig over just a Jeep or FJ Cruiser or something? Why take all the disadvantages of 4 wheels, and all the disadvantages of 'no cage', and combine them, with no advantage?

    I guess I can see, if your sidecar is detachable, then you can take a lot of stuff with you to your campsite, detach the rig, and ride the bike like a bike (on trails, have fun on gravel roads, etc), but if your rig is permanent, I'm not quite understanding the draw yet.

    I have had a sidecar for only a few years, so I am no expert, but they are a lot of fun. You can carry more crap for camping, more comfortable for my wife when we are travelling. She reckons she can see a lot more than when she is pillion. Easier to stop and take photos on the side of the road! More stable on slippery surfaces. But it really boils down to fun and something different. :-)

    To quote a famous line(with a slight twist) " Its a sidecar thing" - They are FUN !
    You either love them or hate them. No one ever claimed that a bike and sidecar was "practical" as you get wet, can't lean etc, but they have their own attractions.
    Whole new experience. Totally different to riding a bike or driving a car. I had to learn it all again.
    Would love to be out and about on the sidecar, but a few health issues have seen the GS and chair sit in the shed for the last 2 years.

    I'm of the 'if you've got a sidecar, you've got to have a solo too' school. I often said the the outfit slowed me down, which was a good thing years ago but now, I ride slowish on the road too. The best place for an outfit is on a gravel road or track. Bitumen can make them quite hard - largely, I think, to the tyres gripping the road. Gravel lets each tyre move around and they just feel more natural. Ok, less unnatural! You actually have to ride the sidecar as opposed to any 4wd that you sit in and steer. There is satisfaction from getting it all together.

    Regarding the fuel consumption, I always reckon that 10km/litre is about ball park on the highway - pretty much always on the main jet. Get it onto a back road, speed lessens, the engine sits more toward the needle and, well life is pretty good. Mine has 20 l main, 20 l auxilliary (when I can get the bloody pump to keep working) and it's good for around 450 - 500km. That's enough.

    And I've not ridden it for over 12 months either! I am still working on my missus to let me buy a road race outfit. That'd be fun.

    Funny thing when you stop in a town, a old bloke or someone walks up strikes a conversation with ya.The great memories they had riding there own outfit or just getting into it themselves
    For me i was lucky enough go racing junior motocross in 70s sidecar and solos .yes i dont get ride enough now cheers.

    Power sliding an outfit around a corner on dirt roads is pure heaven.

    I wrote the following about 10 years ago now after doing an extended trip on my solo with 2 outfits and I think it sums it up pretty well:

    Outfit: Carry as much crap as you want. Cruise along enjoying the scenery and possibly conducting your favourite tunes. Arrive at your campsite feeling refreshed. Set up camp, sit back in your nice comfy chair and enjoy a cold can or a nice glass of red or both.

    Solo: Carry as little crap as is humanly possible. Spend the whole day concentrating on the road in front of you, see bugger all scenery, spend more time standing up than sitting down. Arrive at your campsite absolutely buggered. Wander around like a fool trying to set up camp because you are so tired you don’t know what you are doing. Sit on your poxy three legged stool and suck some luke warm plastic tasting water from your camel back and mutter under your breath about bloody sidecarists.

    Needless to say these days I own a sidecar and as a rule it’s my go to bike.

    I agree with the poxy 3 legged stool bit..but thats all...I did drive / ride / try to control a sidecar once..TRipodtiger's Trek, with him in the chair..and had a short go in Ollies Ural at Drysdale Station OCR...strange beasts indeed...but being passenger is lotsafun..

    For me personally I had a major prang many years ago (back in 1979 on my Ducati) and whilst I could still ride solo it was always in the back of my mind another mild prang and I would end up in a wheelchair (I still use a walking stick to this day and have since the accident) so when my mate in 1984 let me take his sidecar for a ride it changed everything for me.

    No more worry about my leg (yes I know I could easily have another prang on the outfit) but it was like the first time I rode a motorcycle all over again. Better than sex (you're not a real motorcyclist if you think sex is better than motorcycles:lol3:lol3:lol3 , note I said "is" not "with").

    However what really makes me ride sidecars is the thought of choosing a car over a motorcycle makes me sick. A car is a necessary evil in the city but out bush give me a sidecar any day.

    One on my favourite sayings is "any sidecar rider can ride solo but not every solo rider can ride a sidecar" and that statement is so true.

    There also seems to be a stronger camaraderie amongst sidecar riders.

    Anyway that's why I ride outfits.

    Geez that was good weekend!

    It's really ok, Unc - they're 'experience lines'. I'll fix that when it goes onto hysterical rego. Maybe. Might just let it age gracefully & naturally. Bit like your 625. 'cept I'll keep it away from mechanics that I don't know.
