New Visitors: For information on the 2018 edition of the run, Click Here to go to POST #155 For several years, I've been knocking around the idea of organizing an informal bike run from the geographic center of the contiguous 48 states, just south of the KS-NE border outside Lebanon, KS, up U.S. Route 281, to the site that marks the center of North America (675 miles). I told a friend of mine the idea and his response was, "Why? That's the middle of nowhere." I said, "Wrong, it's the middle of everything!" I love riding extremely rural 2-lane roads. I thought ADVrider would be the best place to find others who might agree with me. Here's a Google Map of the route: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1qV87jxSqO3L1AUeS1wOGrCwl7ug&usp=sharing So I'm tossing this out to gauge interest. To make it a challenge, I'd like to encourage people to try it on a small-bore bike. I'd personally make up commemorative patches and give one to anybody who completes the trip on a motorcycle of 281cc or less. I'm thinking the Saturday closest to the summer solstice, which in 2015 would be June 20th. If you took off at dawn, you could average just 45 MPH and still finish by sundown. Any takers, or am I the only one this would appeal to?
