My repair is holding up!!:super I put that stretch stick on that gate last year, I couldn't come close to opening it until I fixed it.

Pic size looks good to me.:dunno

Hi Notar_520 - thanks for stopping by!
    :confused Um, okay...:lol3
Good job! Haha, matt said, "What the hell? you guys take photos of anything. He has a photo of the stick, you have one of the gate...?"

I remember this road on the picture above very well. I actually have a video of riding on the banks of this rut of a road.

Have you guys crossed this creek? (which should be just before the photo above).

I didn't cross it. I back tracked (I had to!) and found this other way across the creek (should also be just before the photo above)

One never knows the many variants on the route. Which is a good thing. But also makes me think I need to go back there and check this out better. :evil

    Back on the trail...

    This section was really pretty.

And, fun. Matt and Trayce ride well together, so on occasion, they did the slightly staggered thing (mostly to avoid the dust).
Nothing too speedy - the OBCDR was (for us) all about relaxing and having fun.

I enjoyed making that little video, but the camera did not. The lens kept sticking for the rest of the day.
This is the same crappy $150 point and shoot (canon Power Shot A560) that I used on the TAT last year
(and it's been to Mexico/Baja at least 3 times).
I kinda wanted a dustproof, waterproof, crushproof camera for this trip - but we were already over budget. Maybe next time.

I think some of these photos might be slightly out of order.
Matt told me, "Relax, you aren't being graded on this thing..."
    I hope not.
I'd get an A in "enthusiasm" and an F in "shutting the f**k up"
Couldn't find a clip for that so you get the whole episode :lol3

(2015 - Aw, man. The only way you can see that now is to pay for it. Sorry!)

    More nice dirt

Everywhere we went on this trip, we saw beautiful wildflowers.
All of oregon smelled like old ladies

Trayce took these "sensitive-side" flower pics

I guess this isn't a flower, but you know... lichen is close enough.

I never think to take those shots, probably because when matt and I are alone, we only stop to pee or eat. Or practice our ATGATT snow hiking.:lol3

    Hi Cesar,
wow, to be honest, I'm not sure. We crossed many creeks, but I don't remember that specific spot.
Where's larryboy when you need him? out riding NV, of course! :lol3

Cool video! I noticed at about the 1:00 minute mark you can hear a pretty loud noise.:huh Was it a case of being ambushed by a large rock in the road?:lol3

That road looks like a lot of fun. Keep up the good work, and if you don't tell us they are out of order we wouldn't know. Until we retrace your route, but we understand it's not your fault. It's not your fault:rofl

    heh, nice link.
And, yes, that was a big ol' rock that jumped up and hit us.

    Day 7 continued....

Everything was so green and inviting

    Look at this gorgeous meadow!

We stopped at the creepy Baby'’s Grave.

I don’t know much about this landmark, except that it has brought inspiration to some .

Stopped for some photos on the way to Delintment Lake...

Delintment Lake. It was pretty gusty - people were fishing, but it seemed a little unpleasant with all that wind.
We had granola bars for lunch and Trayce kept pushing his gatorade on us...
    (No means No, Trayce!) :lol3

At one point, we were riding close to Trayce (staggered), when an owl flew out of the trees.
It was huge! So neat to watch one fly just over our heads.
I wish I had been able to take a photo, but, man, they're fast.

I was just happy that Trayce saw it, too.

Obviously, we didn't see an Eagle Owl in Oregon, but this is pretty cool:

Augh. It'’s hard to see with the shadows, but these roads were full of giant ruts.

That reminds me - quick digression (okay, not “quick,” but a digression):

When Matt rode some of the OBCDR in 2008, he ended up having some problems around this area - outside of Seneca.
Apparently one can fall into what Matt calls a “"high speed trance"” and get lulled into complacency by the fast, smooth roads.
Then, next thing you know - BAM!

    :p3rry

Back in 2008, Matt was going too fast and when he went around the corner and found some giant, bike-eating ruts...it was too late.

They were deep, truck-track ruts with hard edges and that was it. He had a horrible high side and he and the bike both got trashed.
He remembers crawling around in the bushes, trying to pick up all the pieces (windscreen, mirrors, GPS mount, GPS, etc).

The worst part was the sub-frame bolts - one sheared completely and the other was bent.

He had completely toasted his right shoulder and I don'’t even know how managed to move the 950 (across a stream), and set up his tent with only one arm.
Here'’s how they looked the next day:

    Poor Matt.

So, when he told me that this was the area, I asked if he wanted me to take some photos of where he crashed.

    He said, “"Are you kidding??
What I want is for someone to point one of those flashy things at me so I forget the whole thing!”"

    :lol3

I didn'’t take too many rut pictures as a result.

But, I realize that our non-riding friends and family might not know exactly what I mean.
I fiddled with this photo a little, but the ruts still aren'’t as rutty looking here as they are in person.
    You get the idea.

Anyway, so after that, every time I saw those ruts I would get all freaked out.
    “Uh oh. Big ruts!”

Which would just make Matt start singing (to the tune of this :
    “I...like...big...RUTS and I cannot lie...”

    :rofl

    Ahahaha. :imaposer
God. We have way too much fun when we ride.

I think it drove Trayce crazy sometimes - matt and I would be talking and laughing so hard we kept missing the turns.
    Sorry, Trayce!

    Hey, redog1 -
aren't you leaving for the TAT soon??
I just learned that Hancock Pass is open again...

Have a great trip - looking forward to your ride report!

    I underestimated this crowd :lol3

You need some sleeping pills! Have you tried those little blue ones? They're great. Nytol and Unisom are the brand names, but they have generics, too. Look for Diphenhydramine

Hope you and lionsroaar have an awesome time - ride safe :wave

    I'm "working":rofl
Tried different sleep aids, they make me feel hung over. Don't like them. Using Melatonin right now, helps but sometimes nothing works. I'll be ok and thanks for the input.
We will have a BLAST.:freaky :wings :ricky

    Day 7 continued...

Just a quick note about Gravitycheck. You're probably wondering why he hasn't signed in...
We left on good terms, I swear! :lol3

    :kumbaya

I thought maybe he forgot his ADV password, but it turns out that Trayce has some excellent (personal) reasons why he hasn't been stopping by.
I'm a little sad, since he's the main reason I'm even doing a ride report this year, but it just means I get to use all the goofy Gravitycheck photos I want :D
Some day he'll get to read this, and by then it will be too late...
    :smile6

    So, Day 7 continued...

It got so freaking dusty, we started spacing ourselves further apart.
We took turns leapfrogging, taking photos and video of each other.
Here, Trayce waved us by so he could get video.

    Oops - one more.
This was from earlier that morning (but I forgot to post it yesterday).
Trayce was still learning how to shoot a video :lol3

Too bad we were so busy fooling around, we blew by the trail turnoff...

Norm said it was straight ahead, through this grass.
Trayce was skeptical, but it worked.

Love these pink wildflowers. I probably should save some of these 2up pics to use later in the report, when we no longer have a photographer.
I guess I'd better practice my CS2 skills (photoshop) so I can cut and paste us into the upcoming CDT backgrounds :lol3

    Day 7 continued...

Pretty soon, we were in Seneca.

I wanted to see the bobcats, but they weren'’t outside.

I know a lot of inmates like to stay here at the Lodge, but I was worried it would be too pricey.
Also, we only had 4 days with Trayce and the 3 of us just wanted to sit around and bullshit amongst ourselves.
We picked up some grub and some beer and split.

Stopped at a campground and filled up our dromedary bags, then continued on to another campground called "big creek" (the woman at the store said it was much nicer the further out you go).

It was nice. We were almost the only ones there (2 guys were on the other side of the CG).
I even found a huge pile of firewood that some previous campers had left. Score!

We didn’'t need to fill our bags after all. There was water here.

We enjoyed this cool (but splashy) hand pump.

While Matt had ridden with Trayce quite a bit (Baja, 2007 KTM rally, etc...),
I had only met him a handful of times before this trip.
It was fun to sit around and chat and get to know him better.

Last night, while we were drinking and catching up, Matt and I had been telling Trayce about our trip so far.

He couldn'’t believe how much snow and crap we had already gone through in the first few days.
"What in the hell are you guys doing?!" :eek7

Today, out of Matt'’s earshot, Trayce told me, "“Don’t worry, Kelly. That shit won’t happen now - I’ll be the voice of reason!”"

(Here comes the Voice of Reason!)

    :dllama:

The day had gone really well - smooth, relaxing and fun.
Maybe Trayce was breaking the spell of Stupid...

[guess that sucks for you guys...:bore]

    :lol3

So, that's what hard bags are good for...comfy seats.

The campfire pics didn'’t turn out very well, but here’'s a pretty moon shot:
