    Hey guys, nice resto's. I bought my PE175 for $50 with a melted piston. I gave it new piston rings and rebore and it was off from the get go. On the first weekend my mate said how do you steer that thing, I asked why? He said that front wheel is never on the ground..haha. It hammed and in the tighter stuff i kept it up to an IT490. It eventualy did the big end and i sold it as is for $125 and went to the pub... haha. I was told it was a police bike, not sure on that story, but supprisingly fast. Maybe had the restrictor removed as mentioned earlier in the thread. Some nice examples guys.

    I bought this a few years ago 1980 250 T, stripped it down and that's where it's sat so it's time I got off my arse and put it back together. I've had the frame painted, recovered the seat got new wheel and headstem bearings etc., etc., some new DC plastics are next on the list to buy.

    I am going to re-spoke the wheels with HD stainless spokes but can anyone tell me if the hubs should be painted matt or gloss black?

    Friend and I pulled the jug and covers off to replace the crank seals a day after these pics were taken.
    Waiting on seals, gaskets, piston, etc
    Hoping it was the crank seals that was causing that high idle.
    Ordered some new cables, reeds, plastics(OEM!), decals.....

    Here's my 1983 PE175. I'm the original owner. It sat in the back corner of my garage for the last 20 years. I pulled it out and cleaned it up a little. Added a horn, mirror, brake light and some new DOT tires. Cleaned the carb and with some fresh pre-mix and a new plug, she fired up on the very first kick. I'm digging it like the day I brought her home from the dealer. A trip to the Secretary of State (DMV everywhere else in the world) to get a plate next week and I'm going to be grinning from ear to ear.

    Anybody know the torque setting for the nut that holds the clutch basket on the '80 PE400?
    I did reprint the manual, but I can't seem to find it.
    I know it has that washer that you fold down over one side of the nut, just snug it?

    I swear I read the section on that in the Clymer manual I downloaded and could not find anything- is there a chart somewhere?
    Stopped by a motorcycle machine shop today (about an hour ago) and asked and he said that is definately NOT a "snug" nut- needs to be tight.
    Thanks, again- at least I can get the clutch cover on!
    OK..... at the risk of being needy; Is there anyway to do that without that tool that holds the basket? Not seeing how.
    It's $20 so if I need it- I need it. Not a huge deal.
    I tightened the primary gear net fairly tight using that penny trick between the gears, but that won't work on the clutch nut, unless I'm more incompetent than I thought! (and that is possible!)

    The Torque ratings for the Primary drive gear is the same as the Clutch sleeve hub nut.
    The tool that holds the Clutch from turning by Suzuki is called a Clutch sleeve hub holder, part #09920-53710 and it's very expensive. I don't know what else to use but you could probably use or rig something else up, I haven't done that yet.

    Thanks for that.... again.
    Local dealer loaned me a very cool universal clutch basket tool this afternoon.
    Showed me how to use it- pretty straight forward; 2 arms, 1 adjusts with a locking nut, etc and a big handle.
    The primary nut- which I cinched pretty good using that penny trick- looks to be perfectly lined up with where the crush washer was originally folded over, so I think that's good. The clutch basket nut.... I just knew I could not get that tight.
    Will play with that tonight, hopefully.

    To be perfectly honest- I NEVER, EVER, EVER plan to do this again.
    I have neither the time, interest, nor talent for what I am doing and really don't care too much about aquiring it. Seriously.
    The tool the dealer loaned me is almost exactly what's in the link.
    As Dirty Harry said in Magnum Force (I think!)..... "A man's got to know his limitations"
    I like to play and tinker here and there with these bikes- not tear into bottom ends.
    Lesson learned.

    Plastics look NEW (as in mint) and I love that tool by the forks.
    Need two, just not paying the crazy money for them!


    Just a few pics I took last night- nothing really to show.
    One shows that basket tool the dealer loaned me- worked like a charm.
    Will fold the washers over later and get the cover on. Kind of nervous. Tightened the two nuts (primary & clutch) to 40 ft-lbs.
    Put the new rings on the piston and will try to get the top-end done tonight.

    That's amazing that your decals have stayed on your gas tank as good as they are and with no or little bubbles. I also bought one of those UFO rear fenders, I think they look real good for aftermarket. They remind me of the late 70's Husky wr fenders. I had to order one from the UK to get the color yellow, I couldn't find one in that color over here anywhere.

    I just rec'd an order from the UK- all yellow plastics! I will take some pics and show you what I got asap.
    I found some vintage UFO looking rear fenders with integrated tailights- I'll show them to you. They look very cool and I like them better that what's on there now as these don't really have that portion on the side(s) that grab all the spooge from that aftermarket silencer.
    But, yes- the one on there now has that vintage Husky feel to it.
    For some reason- it's a struggle to get plastics here... not the UK, though.
    Stilmotor is one brand, for example, that you cab get overseas- but not here. And they have some GREAT stuff. Not sure if they are still around, though.
    The rear fender in my avatar pic is one that I had to get shipped from the UK- came in IT BLUE!!! :)
    That bike is on my pics, too.
    Bottom is all buttoned up- piston is on the rod. Waiting for a hand to try to get that jug over the piston- seems tough with just two hands with the motor still in the bike, all the while compressing the rings (no compressor) and at the same time keeping the rings properly aligned on the pins! UGH!!!

    ** I did run over to Harbor Freight today and get a ring compressor. Not sure it'll work though with the studs but I'll give it a try. Worth the $10 if it works. Worth the shot even if it doesn't. Went all over town today and nobody has them; in a small town, though. **

    Just wanted to share my complete restoration with some photos. The bike was completely intact when I picked it up a few months ago. I stripped it down, painted the frame, rebuild the forks, changed all bearings. I am keeping the original beat up shocks for now. And I have replaced the stock carb with a Lectron (I love the way the Lectron works on my Husky, so decided to get one for the PE). I did not touch the motor as it has less than 1000 miles. I have not fired the bike up yet, as I still have some finishing touches to complete.
