I knew mine was too green. I did not know that I didn't have to cut the bark off. I still have plenty to block out and have my kid split (that is some gnarly chit to split!). I think 'll cut some 8"-10" blocks just for this purpose. If I go ahead and split it, it should be ready to use for smoking by fall!

Sorry for the thread hijack. Feel free to PM me and we can talk smoking out of the thread.

As for ribs, it has been my experience that unless you're quite the pro, it's hit or miss. I made some last year that were phenomenal, made some the very next day, the very same way; had to throw them away. :puke2

Have you had any luck unearthing a place for us to camp?

I sent the folks at spearhead an email linking them to this thread with a request for either a place we could camp there or a lead on a place locally. I am quite honestly a bit shocked that they haven't responded with some sort of a solution. You'd think they'd like to have 20-30 of us perfect little angles gallivanting around for the weekend!? :freaky

I dunno. I have that weekend of May 5-7 blocked off anyway. If Spearhead doesn't get with me soon, I'll just plan to come up anyway and find another place to camp on the fly (not conducive to having many others join me, huh). The first annual Yet-to-be-named rally may be a non-starter :fpalm

There is a private RV park/campground in Big Stone Gap that I'm going to try to check out today: http://www.jessielearv.com/

Most everything else around here opens up either May 12 or May 19. I've seen some up in Kentucky that open sooner though...

Way too many full-timers there. It's right in town. Too much fun would be noticed. Drove over to Cave Springs, it's also closed for the season.

Maybe I need to open a campground here...

There's a nice campground in Pennington at Leeman Field. It's in town like the one in Big Stone though...

Mmmmm.... BBQ. :dukegirl I have a small charcoal smoker that I use chunks of wood with. I'm hit or miss with ribs too. I've had 2 racks on the smoker at the same time and one came out great, the other not so much. :dunno I blame the meat. :D

I know... all that talk about BBQ did me in yesterday. With several cords of hickory green, I went and bought some dry.

    Did this yesterday.

Looks like the z125 is for sale

If it is the same Bike, she is loud.

    https://swva.craigslist.org/mcy/6056617438.html

Here is a highly Modified Z125 Pro in candy lime green. Clean title in hand. Has almost 2,600 miles on the odo, but I will ride her till she sells so that will go up some. Well over 1k in mods. I'm asking $3,500 OBO.

Some mods include a 15t front sprocket (+1), new intake, full Yoshimura exhaust, green underglow kit, brand new Michelin Power Pure tires, tail tidy, adjustable shorty levers, frame sliders and more. All oem parts will be included. On average I can get around 100 mpg!

This bike is perfect for anyone who needs a quick and economical ride. Looking for a ninja 300. Trades considered. No checks please. I can meet in the Bristol area. Feel free to contact me. show contact info Thanks for looking.

The 600 is a gravel road that will take you to the White Top parking lot. Go by it and keep pushing Northwest and you can park on the side of the forest road, and hike to Buzzard Rock.

It opens up a bunch up there. Around 5,000 feet.

It is just a five minute walk to Buzzard Rock, which is on the AT.

It is a sort of plateau, so you can't look for the highest peak and start hiking.

Riding all the way to the highest point in VA, is not be possible, unless you ride your MC on a National Scenic Trail.

    Have a goodn

Update for @The_Precious_Juice : The road going from High Knob to Little Stony Falls (FS 238) is now open! I haven't driven it yet, but the gate was open last weekend.

Also, Flag Rock Campground is open as well, but none of the National Forest campgrounds open until May 15.

Burke's Garden, Va: Just by chance, heading home from March Moto Madness in Tellico Plaines, Tn. I road up the twisty roadway into Burke's Garden. It was quite plush and scenic up there. Nice views of the valley below from there. The General Store was closed and I didn't see anywhere else to stop for a bite. Took the dirt road down the other side.

Question: Are there any adjacent similar dirt roads in that area with valley views?

There are a few other files floating around out there that can give you some fun. They're pretty well protected though. Find the BRT and you have something!

    Bump.
Too many good places mentioned to let this thread fade away during the peak riding season.
