I read somewhere that they get terrible gas mileage, what are you getting?
Early days but the fuel tank holds 5.06 imp gal. The warning display came on at 230miles today which if the manual is to be believed happens when 1.46 imp gal remain.
So 63.8 mpg imperial or 53.4 mpg US.
If I can use all the remaining gas that gives a total range of around 323 miles, I'll find out in the next few days if the reserve amount is accurate.
This is my new bike:
Well, I'd better say I own 2 Teneres as it was a pack of 2 identical 660 Teneres, one of them non rideable (no license anymore, just for pieces, but it's 90% complete).
I'm happy now and preparing a trip to Morocco with it
Hi , can anybody from over anywhere but here (USA) find out what the regulator part number is for a 86 tenere? Trying to find parts for this pig like pulling teeth over here. The kid behind the parts counter did not even know what a xt600 is! What I need is a yamaha part number for a 1vj tenere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have a look here
under the "electrical" section, it may help.
The Yamaha part# is 34L-81960-A0-00 for an '84 XT600, should be the same I would think. I've had to get some parts for my '89 and the basic stuff is the same. Good luck.
I thought I might use a heated jacket with my 86 tenere , does anyone know the stator output (watts) on a 86 1vj tenere?
Hi all, been lurking around here for a while so I thought it time to post up a pic of my Tenere. I bought this bike new in 1988 and used it to commute to work as well as weekend tourer.
I was riding it less and less until in 2001 I didn't bother to re-register it. So it was stored in the back of my parents garage for about 7 years. Unfortunately this was a bad move. The bike had been exceptionally reliable until the lack of use.
When I dragged it out from under the cover and tried to start it earlier this year nothing happened. The carby was gummed up and there was nothing to do except remove it and clean the residue out.
Carby cleaned, new oil, filters, chain, sprockets, tyres and battery replaced, now the bike is back to what it was, a great, reliable and easy starting tourer.
My 96 model was bought cheap - used mostly to flog up and down to work. Now and then it gets out for a play. It really surprised me how competent it was in the bush - provided you're not in a KTM hurry and don't jump it too much with standard suspension...
I'm learning to like it more and more.
Mitas E09 on rear
mine is a 96 too. I might have to go and check out the new one when they arrive here.
I will add a thew pics. Have had a thew mods added since these were taken rear racks, pissed off the RTA turn signals and put some smaller clear ones on,new bars, and barkbusters on the way.
Love this bike more then capable for my riding ability touch wood has not let me down once yet
