The Tesla in the Driveway

    Anybody following this on Jalopnik?
    A writer for Auto Week was loaned a Tesla Model S for testing. A glitch occurred and he can't get the charger out of the socket in the car. Because he cant, the car can't be moved and it's been stuck in his driveway for days.
    Tesla flew a tech to Michigan yesterday to figure out what's wrong and now they're waiting for parts.

    I hear nothing but good about this car but I guess there's a few teething problems to work out.

    A certain ICE has had at least 3 recalls this, it's first year, mostly for leaking oil, gas and fires. Where is your angst?

    Of course, this doesn't necessarily translate into real-world performance but this automobile is no POS.
    Auto companies that have been making cars for decades are still issuing recalls.

    I saw the model S in Austin, its a nice looking car and seems reasonably priced for what it is. I hope they get the kinks worked out.

    When the first tesla came out I was interested in getting one. I had to get "put on a list" and to do that I had to fill out a 3 page survey about what I did, where I lived, what other cars I had... So I got put on the list to be able to get one on the second 100 built - not cool enough for the first 100. Anyway, I needed to put 75k down up front, then another something like 20k on delivery. Because I didn't live in one of the target areas (basically - LA, San Francisco, or Boston) I had to buy another 20k maintenance package that stipulated a tech would come out and set the charging system up in my garage and then they would fly someone out after that if I had issues (i guess like those above). Anyway, seemed like a lot of coin for what at the time was vaporware. I bought a Caterham instead.

    Anyway, I hope the Model S is easier to acquire and works well. I wouldn't mind having one.

    I find it quite funny that he gets a little uppity when the tech asks him to NOT use a metal (conductive) feeler gauge to try to free the ELECTRIC charger connection from the car. And then we have comments on how uncool it is for the tech to tell you you can't "work" on your own car. It would have been classic if he had gotten fried in the process.

    Let's not stick metal thingies in electrical connections that MAY still be active OK? You'll live longer that way :D.

    I've been starting to see them around. I see them on the freeway in front of the Tesla plant. I dont know if thats just employees taking cars out for a test though

    Maybe the price could come down a little if they skipped the grille.

    The A/C condenser would get its air from where, then? Plus the battery pack has a cooling system, which also needs air. And they still want it to look like a traditional car. Grille-free cars sometimes look like toys.

    With all this coal & wind, we should any time now. Just nowhere near enough charge points to keep a Tesla or any other plug-in electric car moving.

    Those ICE cars leaking oil & gas are junk. Those electric cars with stuck electric cords are junk.

    I started following Rory when the story broke. Interesting to see how Tesla dealt with it. The press car probably has wear and tear from a lot of noobs driving it.

    The Tesla S was just featured on Tested.com with the actual owner. (Not a press car.)

    The Fiskar is a nice car but between breaking down and catching fire, I'd rather have a Tesla S. :lol3 Someone in town has one though I haven't seen it in a while. :doh
