When I left off we were riding across a swath of big woods seperating northern New Hampshire and Maine. The road we took was a good 60 miles long if I remember correctly.

These roads were just made for the big dualies. The riding and scenery were superb.

Well around 3pm I belive it was, we finally (not that we wanted to end) popped out into Maine. My GPS was telling me to go south. And we needed to refuel both our stomachs and bikes. So, you can imagine my surprise when I come around this cornor and at this little general store was a congregation of adventure bikes ! I quickly think to myself "Surely I know at least one of these guys from ADV Rider"

As we pull in the local riders spy our NJ tags. And bingo ! They said "holy flip! you must be Dockingpilot" ! Yep, I knew these great bunch of guys. You see, when I was agonizing over planning this route across Maine, they gave me assistance in routing many months prior. They new I was out here somewhere and just by luck, and I mean by minutes, we crossed paths ! And Maine is a huge state !!

A reunion of sorts was had, with bs flying and shaking hands. It was great to meet these Mainers in person.

Sam, TSlapper & BMWKLR ask us where we plan to stay tonight. I said where ever we find ourselves. It was getting late in the day now. They both said, we'll we have the ultimate camp spot for you guys. It's not close, but Sam said "I'll lead you there boys if you like"
    :huh
    We jumped on the offer.

Sam mounts his 990 and we head out. He is leading us to thier "secret" ADV camp spot. Sam insisted on blind folding us for the last 5 miles in . :lol3
It would take us a good hour to get there and it was pretty far back in. I was tracking it on my GPS so I could find our way out on the am.

Sam stops at this loney fuel station and advises us to top off. We'll need it he says coming out in the am.

And after a lot of dirt going in we finally arrive at the spot.

And yes, it was to die for.

Bruce and I thank Sam for his hospitality. He's a good guy.

Sam departs before we loose all light. He has to ride out alone too. Which doesn't seem to bother these guys up here at all.
Thanks Sam, we never would have found a spot like this without you fellas.

This is just great. Relaxed, drinking coffee. No rush to be anywhere. I look on my netbook at the upcoming route that will take us across Maine.

    DK opens the oatmeal
    [IMG]

And we take our coffee and oatmeal, sit on the edge of the lake and soak in the moment and the warm sunshine.

As I mentioned earlier, creating this off pavement route was difficult at best. I had help. Northern Maine and New Brunswick Canada would really be a crap shoot without local knowledge. Well, that help came from the New Brunswick Dual Sport Club. I could fill a whole page telling you about these guys. In a word, Incredible. The help they all offered to me all year long was beyond anything I have ever experienced. NBDSC members are a class act.
Im leading into something, so keep that in mind.

We are heading in a west-east direction today across Maine. This road would be around 80 miles long before we would pop out into civilazation again.

We spread out. The day was perfect. Around 65 degrees and sunny.

This was cool. A little odd that it was out here in the woods.

Well after a few hours of spectacular riding we popped out onto the pavement. Our GPS's pointed us south to West Forks for fuel.

We decided to shut em down and take a break.

We probably spent an hour in here shooting the breeze with the locals. This was great ! Very quiet, sleepy little hamlet. Everything you need right in here. From shotgun shells to ice cream.

I was there when you all were that day! It was nice to meet the few of you that I did, and I am enjoying reading about the rest of your trip!

Also, the spinach and feta croissant was delicious. :thumb Thanks for the suggestion, Duane.

Crud, wish I'd known you were coming my way, Frank! Hotels in Stowe are steep in leaf peeper season -- you were lucky to find a room!

Would've offered beer, showers and hot chow plus a place to pitch your tents if I'd been paying attention...provided you smeared some mud on those NJ plates to cover them up! :D

    Nice report! In!

Now I have a SPOT satelite messenger and the NBDSC boys have been following our progress since we left Jersey on the internet. And they decided to gather up a small welcoming crew, cross the border in Houlton, hook with Marc their lone token yank member who lives in Houlton Me and intersect our path somewhere around Moosehead Lake.
Shortly after we left the Forks and that general store, we came around the cornor and guess who's loitering in a small lakeside parking lot ? :lol3
