So this years trip would take us from the the Great North Woods of New England, the northern Maine wilderness, across the remote interior of New Brunswick Canada and now thatks to our friends at NBDSC it's remote wilderness coast. Freakin awesome :clap

Bruce looking at Martins Head. We arrived obviously at low water. The Bay of Fundy has 30 + tidal surges, so where Bruce is standing now will be under water in a short time.

Dan out there testing his luck !

Lst year Bruce and his SE were on the beach of the Pacific Ocean in Oregon coming off the TAT, now on the beach of the North Atlantic.

After that we head back up. The boys are taking a southerly course along the coast towards S.t John where we will be tonight, showing things most folks in New Brunswick don't even know are there along the way.

Remember, this is all coastline. Hard to keep in mind because in the states, almost every inch of coastal real estate has been developed. Not here.
Still very much a coastal wilderness.

The NBDSC boys tell us they are going to take us to a little known spot called "The Eye of the Needle". We'll have to walk the last bit in.

Dan's been punched out by the best NHL players in the league ! He told us in the training camps he was warned, if he went after Gretsky, his protectors would pumle him. He heeded the warning :lol3
    [IMG]

Now due to the grand scale of this spot, the photos are not going to depict the true essence it omits.
What you cannot see in the picture is the ocean. We could of course, it's right there in the "Eye of the Needle".

Brooksy. A great rider happy to show us his country. A proud Canadien and well he should be.

"Just step back a litlle more......, a little more....." :lol3
    [IMG]

After we walk back to the bikes, we saddle up and head southerly again. Beer Jonny is taking us to a spot called "Wee Peak".

We plan to stop for lunch before going up to Wee Peak. Jonny knows just what we were lokking for too. SEAFOOD ! :dg

    Along the way:

Now, I'll be the first to admit, I wa riding out of the realm of the loaded 800 on these roads. I was behind BeerJonny on his XR650R and he flies. I was getting carried away on this road, really wicking it up.

And overshot this turn and at first, low sided at about 40 mph, which wasn't bad, but then the 800 bit into something and.....yup, highsided. :waysad
I almost made the turn, but you can see the skid mark from the port side pannier.

I was fine and the bike was fine except for a little pannier tweak. The boys helped up, and of course proceeded to break my balls :lol3 , then it was off to lunch again ! :clap
    [IMG]

Yup, thats the ocean right there. Covered bridges, 2 of them, oceanside. Rare. And the only 2 that you can photograph in one picture.

Look at that tidal drop !

Oh, this is gonna be good.

This is the parking lot !

Of course the big fock can't help but make sure he has documented proof of my crash :eatme
    [IMG]
    :lol3

We feast ! And yes, the chowder was flippin excellent !!

"Gee Frankie, that BMW folded like a cheap suit on that turn, my KTM didn't seem to have a problem with it though eh" ?

    Again you fockin Sasquatch: :eatme

    :lol3

Now this is really cool and the reason for the name of the restuarant.

At high tide, the sea water comes all the way in those caves.

From there, we gear up and head for "Wee Peak"

And the ocean view from Wee Peak. Yea, we'd find this kinda stuff on our own....yea, right. The NBDSC members made this trip unforgettable.
Where the fall woods meets the sea uninterrupted.

We shoot the bull, but we also know it's getting late in the day. We need to get to St. John tonight and be back across the border into the U.S. tomorrow. We've been gone a long time, logged many miles since that day we crossed Lake Champlain into Vermont and we need to start to heading towards home.

Of course BeerJonny knows the best way into the city of St. John. No traffic this way eh ? :lol3
    [IMG]

It starts to rain when we arrived at the Best Western in St. John. It's a sad goodbye to our new friends from Canada. These guys are the real thing. I wish I knew more people like them.
I think Dan is crying under that helmet .....:lol3 Big baby ya know.

When I come back, we cross the border into Calais Maine following day, ride Acadia NP the and I'll wrap this RR up.

Great write up Frank. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. But I speak for all Canadians when I say you may want to look up the correct spelling of Gretzky.......but where you're from Joi-see, I suppose you could have easily thought it was "The Great Gatsby". We'll forgive you this one though....this time.:huh I don't know how you found the time to sneak up on me in the shower though, especialy when you spent so much time on your hair grooming....

It was a great run though. And yes it was a sad day when you guys departed from St. George that day on your way to Calais, Me. I said it before, and I'll say it again, you guys are the real deal; genuine, down to earth good 'ol boys. I consider it an honour to have met you Frank, and to call you my friend.

I hope however, you found a proper toilet when you arrived home. There was just no need of you "spoling" our beautiful Canadain fall foliage like you did this day.....:eek1 :eek1 :eek1 :lol3

The next morning we were having breakfast and gearing up to cross back over the border at Calais Maine.
Suddenly Dan pops into the motel lobby ! He want ted ride with us just a little bit more even if was raining and and the tar. :clap :clap He even brought his lovely wife Christina with him to meet us.
She departed by car and we hit the road hugging the coast, southbound for the border.

    The border at Calais
    [IMG]

We rode down coastal route 1 to Mount Desert Island Me. and set up camp. We arrived there about an hour before dark.

A nice little seafood place was close by.

When we got back to our campsite, we took a stroll down the super dark road to the lighthouse.

DK capturing these cool night shots with his very good camera. Trust me it was pitch black out there.

The next morning we strike camp. Today we plan to ride the loop around Acadia NP then head southwest towards home.

DK and Bruce, silently thinking about where we had just gone and who we had met. Trips like this are therapy, they cleanse a mans mind you know.

We stop for one more lobster lunch before we navigate west and inland once more.

This bridge over the Penobscot River leads us away from the ocean and towards home.

We stopped at this motel in Maine about 60 miles from the New Hamshire border for the night. The next morning while packing the bikes up. This friendly local guy came by and just wanted to chat. And chat we did.

This evening we would be home, back with our loved ones after almost 2 weeks, and it would mean the end of the "2009 Turf and Surf Adventure" for us.
It was just awesome. As I mentioned in the begining of this RR, "Way better than I expected".

Thanks to the boys from Maine who helped us route through to Greenville and everyone else who also offered intel in routing. Couldn't have done it without ya's.
But a huge, meaningfull THANK YOU goes out to THE NEW BRUNSWICK DUAL SPORT CLUB :clap :clap :clap :clap :clap
Without their gracious help, hospitality and guidence this trip would not have been possible to the degree it was.
    "We owe you boys" :1drink

I am glad you got to meet some of the NB boys and enjoy our fine province. Will you be posting up the GPS files on here or tell us where we can link into it. I live here and have not been on some of those routes that you described ( just too many roads and not enough time in a riding season). I thoroughly enjoyed your report.
