Our ride ends practically here. We reached asphalt in Kavousi again without any incidents and arrived in Herakleion (Ηράκλειο) some time later. This is part of the map shows most of our ride this day.

Well, we couldn't get our bikes muddy enough but we encountered many hard roads and got them a bit dusty at least. And of course we had an excellent time while doing that, right Yannis?

And some statistics from this ride:
Km's ridden: 250 of which ca 70 dirt roads
    Average speed 44km/hr
    Average consumption for
    Silver F800GS : 5.2lt/100km
    Yellow F800GS: 5.9lt/100km
Time on the road: around 8 and a half hours
Hopped you enjoyed this ride as much as we did. Give me a few days rest and we can start the next one, but this time it will be less riding and more hiking while we explore some VERY old monastery ruins :huh
    Till next time then :clap

    Wonderful report.
Been only once, shortly, in Crete; without opportunity for visiting around.
Big fan of island though. Kazantzakis one of my favorite authors (ho kapitan Michalis, to name one).
Hope you will post some more reports of your inspiring rides.

    Hi Markas,
thanks for posting this great report. Crete must be a fantastic place to live, as shown by your stunning photos.
I've just checked the ferry prices from Piraeus, very reasonable, so Crete is on my list.
    See you in 2015.
    Thanks,
    Mark.

Great Ride Report Markas. I once gave a verbal book report about Crete
with information sourced from a National Geographic magazine.
This was in 1965; I still remember how much my classmates
enjoyed hearing about all of the splendor of Crete
and your RR brought back fond memories.

Thank you all for your kind words. I have given up this thread cos it's kinda hard to write a decent ride report in English. I will try to revive it, but not with the monastery i promised. At least not for now. I will revive it with my latest ride, a memorable one i wanted to share with the advrider community.

    So, here it comes:

Well, it all started a sunny morning with a perfect, cloudless sky...
Me, with my WR250R, and two mates of mine, George with the Husquarna TE610 and Spyros with the old but still capable KLE500. We started heading towards the mountain of Psiloritis, trying every dirt road and path we could, just random checking alternative routes. Not many photos taken, but few are better then none.
Like those on that slope full of wet, frozen and slippery greens between olive trees.

The ride continues on known and unknown paths with small breaks.

Tempting that little creek right? The only thing that held me rushing into it and trying to explore its depth was the thought of a full day with wet socks in the cold winter.

The day was perfect and relatively warm and we had mood for adventure.

So, we continue to head for the mountains...

As i have already stated in earlier posts, Crete is a relatively big island. It has great variety of landscapes and you have the idea sometimes that you are not on an island. But if you happen to know the right spots, and be there at the right time, you can see both shores of the island, both north and south. So, next stop was on of those to take some photos:

Hmm, seems that i forgot to take a picture of the south shore...
Well, at least i took this video:
