I had an XR400 a few years back. Great little contraption that I should've kept.

Can't make it this year Duke. The bikes are in CO and we're spending the winter in AZ. We're thinking of bringing them down next winter, though. Please pay us a visit if you drive through the PHX metro area.

So seems this thread is getting quite popular, so how about sharing those parts fiche's that you all have stashed???:1drinkI have two 400's and two 650R's, both types absolutely stonking machines.
I saw a 400 motard imported direct from Japan with e-start and cush-drive. I'll go past the dealer again and take a few pics. Means that the Japs do make an E-start 400, just not for international consumption.
Who makes the decisions as to what models are imported or not? Makes me wonder why they think we don't want an XR400 with E-start when all other manufacturers have them.
By the way, I live in Tanzania, biking heaven!

Somewhere I saw aa aluminum tool box that mounted under the left rear number plate, attached to the subframe. Has anybody seen this and know where to get it?

Took me a little time find and take pics of the XR4, but here are a couple. I have had this XR400 since '96 and love it. I raced it in amatuer enduros & local hair scrambles a little back then. Now I commute on it whenever I can, ride with my kids on their PW60 & XR70, & wife on her CRF230.

No performance mods to speak of.
    Utility mods include:
Baja Designs kit and plate in '96,
    16T front sprocket
Duro dual sport tires (cheap commuting traction)
Passenger pegs adapted off a CBR I think
Top box from JC Whitney (for daily commute, not tested off-road)
Rear rack from Ebay (cut to fit around DOT taillight)
Clark 3.8 gallon tank for longer trips
Blue artwork from Ebay (not recommended, stickers are not sticky :bluduh)

I am curious about the windshield setup. I have been looking a little for a windshield myself. Is that a purchased XR400 aftermarket item or in-house developed? :evil
