Now that is nice. Any chance of this working with the stock rear shock?
I think the best word that can be used for your question is NOTTA' - sorry
Looks real good sharkey
thanks, tell you the truth, this tire keeps me upright no matter how hard i ride it on the trails... but i wont go with this tire next time because it follows cracks in the road BAD, hard to ride on pavement but i do it anyways, alot of getting used to.. that middle tread is a pain. other than that. i maxed the rear tire out, rubbed for a week, then disappeared! haha
Sharky, your ingenuity has blown me away. leaving me sitting at the edge of the couch studying the pictures. unreal. cant wait to see this thing put together, you will have to send us a link to a video of it running when you get to that point!
Oh man - I sure hope it runs too! Here is what I did lately. I'm hoping to have the wheels mounted by weekends end, although it is Saint Patties Day Sunday

This will be the last updates for a while I'm thinking. Next is the cosmetic stuff, and I need to find someone to barter with when it comes to side plates and seat design - or, ah - I'll give it a shot
Wheels are mounted, both the same size - had to make my own spokes! rear hub is the XT550's with Husqvarna rear rim, axle and altered spacers and front is 100% Husqvarna with the XT550 rear rim, plus I had to bore out the triple tree to fit the 40mm Husqvarna fork tubes.

the profile looks sick! i want to convert my bike over to disk breaks, i just need to figure out what swingarm i can put on the back of my bike
I always say..." I have a Welder, Saws-All and a grinder - It will fit". I heard of people doing some disc brake conversions with YZ250's, but I'm not sure if it is just front, or both. I actually have a YZ250 (in a box) that I got for next to nothing - That's my next project
I think the Greeks have it figured out.
They sure do! Make me ponder even more<a href="http://s1306.photobucket.com/user/sharkeysmachines/media/CustomXT550_zpsba5f7418.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1306.photobucket.com/albums/s573/sharkeysmachines/CustomXT550_zpsba5f7418.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo CustomXT550_zpsba5f7418.jpg"/></a>
Hey guys, does anyone know where to get a starter set for my bike? I've tried everyone from Yamaha to AJ Sutton in the UK, every place says "part is obsolete" I managed to get the rubber seat out, reversed it with some success. The bike is running, (which it always was), and the plug is not cold fouling as bad but I would sure like to get the right part installed. Any ideas?
www.boats.net says that the same starter set is used in these bikes:
1982 XT550J CARBURETOR
1983 XT550K CARBURETOR
1984 XT600L CARBURETOR

Maybe find a good used carb and tear it apart? Just a thought...
I went to a single carb set up. You are welcome to mine. You figure out the shipping and it's yours.
So, are you out riding it???:eek1

forks and shock came off an 82 IT 465,swingarm off a 79 YZ400, upper shock mount was cut out of the frame and repositioned.Acerbis headlight and tank, tires are kenda.Motor is stock except for supertrapp slip on and a K&N filter.
It must be cold up there, a "good for you" for the true riders. I'm originally from the North East and now in Florida. Bikes are nearly year round here. However, I've become puss-a-fied with the weather here, and it is still cold for me here now - freaking 58 today! Al-stinking Gore- can kiss my Irish! Hope all goes well with the carbs, keep us up-to-date.
Nice Pic. I love the snow background and the Bark Busters!
P.S. Your chain looks a little loose
