    I put a set of Progressive Suspension front springs in my '94 XT600E with the preload spacer that was suggested (PVC pipe cut to length). Works well. Got them from Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse.

    I have an 84 bought used with about 15,000 miles on her and I broke the speedo cable at 25,000 and have never replaced it that was 4 years ago.
    I have set the valves once and I change the oil once a year justt to keep it lubed. I have never been left stranded and it still starts with a couple of kicks even after winter storage.
    I rode her last year for 5 days straight on the OBDR through Oregon about 900 miles.
    I keep her for a spare bike now but I would never sell.

    Here's mine, an '89, @ Red Mtn., CO in '92. Still got it, it's waiting patiently for me, as the kids [and me!] get a lil older; and I, maybe, make a lil more $$$. :twitch

    This is mine: XT 500, 4 Valves, 1984, ~120000 km
    Same as XT 600 only smaller cylinder, was built for Austria only:

    VERY RELIABLE!!!!

    I use it during winter in the city and in the forests during summer. :)

    But the pics are not very up-2-date: I painted all white plastics black.

    Pics will follow soon!

    Gotta get in on this. I wanted a DR600 but ended up being given this;

    Reliable is an understatement, really good will-not-stop technology.
    This very probably is the Landrover Defender of motorbikes.

    Thanks but looks like getting a new cilinder sleeve will be cheaper since the piston looks good.The whole top-end job cost twice what I payed for the whole bike:huh

    In the USA you can get Acerbis tanks for the XT600 (both electric and kick start) at JustGasTanks (www.justgastanks.com).

    Im not wanting one that bad. That just seems crazy expensive for what is essentially a plastic jug.

    I tend to agree - which is why I still have my OEM steel tank (pinhole patches from the stupid slanted side design and all). Info provided to those who prefer to farkle rather than pennytech.
