Read a rumor that the s10 may not be in dealers the next year or so. My question is; does any body know what the sales figures are in the US?
Does Yamaha see this as a viable market and do they see a reason to make and sale in the states a smaller/lighter adv bike?

Yamaha has said that they have sufficient inventories of 2013 S10's to meet demand until early 2014. At that time, they're expected to announce a new model, but no one knows whether it will be substantial changes or BNG.

I've never seen hard information on S10 sales. When the PDP program for 2012's was going on, I think someone looked at the VIN's and estimated perhaps 2K or so were sold in the US, but there appeared to be at least another minor round of 2012 models produced post-PDP and there was certainly at least one production run of 2013's. I'd estimate that a few thousand have been sold in the US, but I have no hard information.

It's tough to know how Yamaha views S10 sales and the market. It certainly hasn't done much more than take a small dent out of the GS sales, but perhaps that meets their expectations and they just are looking for a beachhead in the segment before making new pushes with new/revised models. There are rumors about a smaller model, perhaps based on the FZ-09 motor, but really nothing to hang your hat on. Yamaha has said they have no plans to import the XT600Z Tenere that is sold in Europe.

I don't have high hopes of any major push from Yamaha, either in heavily revised models or new models, for the category. I think their focus right now is on low-cost/high-value models for more mainstream segments, like the Bolt and FZ-09. But anything is possible.

Good to know, gotta give Yamaha credit for jumping in when the other japanese keep doing same old same old. I hope Yamaha stays in. It takes a while to get that gs customer. They have been known for years to buy the bike with a propeller on it even if it is less than stellar! some years far, far less.

That's were I had my S10 remapped. Now smoother at low revs and more energetic at higher revs :D

The sales manager of a small Yamaha dealer in CA told me last month that the rumor he's hearing is that they are doing what he called an "electronic suspension".

Hoping that the 2014 has a newly designed 4 pound muffler that can easily be placed on my 2012. Maybe it will look like the Yoshimura, no repack like the Staintune and sound like an Akropovich. Oh - and have the forestry stamp of approval so can ride in the So. Cal mountains. :lol3

Understandable as it's found it's way onto the FJR. If it's as good as the ABS it'll be a useful add on.

Used to, but the only Yamaha I got now is the Super Tenere...

Besides, the "Stay Puft" marshmallow man in your pic is a lot... uh... *lighter* than I am, though taller in relation to the bike! :lol3

OTOH, Super Ray told me that your bike must be pretty *stable*, too!
