Did you have to call to get the shipping cost to the US? When I tried to place the order, it does not calculate shipping, but instead tells me to "consult with office".

    :huh

    Amen, Mr. Pitts... Amen. :clap

Some of us have to ride a lot miles just to get to good areas were we can ride off-road. For instance, I can't wait to get my new Super Ten out to Big Bend so I can explore all the great off-road areas there... but those areas are 550-600 miles from where I live at the other side of Texas. That's more than the entire boundary length of Docking Pilot's state of New Jersey (http://www.city-data.com/states/New-Jersey-Location-size-and-extent.html)... :evil

Sure, a few weekends (and hopefully weeks) during the year I'll be seeking off-road spots to ride the Super Ten all over Texas (and the hopefully the entire USA), but the rest of the time I will be touring and riding the bike for fun, and primarily on pavement. I think if some riders were to candidly examine their own "on vs. off-road" ratios they might find they spent more time on pavement than they realize.

But hey, it's all still riding, and it's all still good! :D

Dallara - find one of Docking Pilot's posts and click on the links in his signature line to see the kind of riding we do on our yearly ADV trips.

The S10 seems to be the perfect bike for these trips.
At least thats my hope :D

I agree with Jim on this and have mentioned it before. The kink in the upper bar just seems out of place. In looking at the pics of your bike laid over on the crash bars, that section of pipe doesn't touch the ground. You must have a reason for that shape, but personally I don't care for it, just as I don't care for the Yamaha unsightly bar that goes up under the front fairing.

    Thanks.

Just took a look at a couple, and I gotta' say those look like some fun rides!!! Wish I could have been along... I especially like the one where the bikes were shipped in, riders flew in, and then were delivered in the limo!!! :clap

That's not only wonderfully decadent and impressive, but looks like too much FUN as well!!!

Gotta' say, you guys know how to travel. :thumb

I guess my point was that I wouldn't be buying my S-10 if I wasn't going to be riding it off-road, either... But that some of us will be having to spend a lot of pavement time on them as well. Funny, too, as I spent years riding and racing (flat track, MX, hare scrambles, enduros) off-road before I ever got on pavement, and I used to poke fun at pavement riders. Then I got a street bike and had a great time there, too. A few years later I tried road racing and had even more fun...

Like I said earlier, it's all riding, and it's all good! :D

@japako: our ABS switch is still being refined, so thanks for the input. Our post about it showed one prototype, but definitely not our final design. Concerning the luggage rack, we are considering different solutions for those who want to remove the pillion seat, and we'll try to keep you all posted as that develops.

Concerning the crash bars, they will change slightly before production. The set in the photographs and at the motorcycle shows is a prototype – we needed to verify fitment before any cosmetic changes.

Get in touch if you decide to order from us – you can always shoot an email over to info [at] AltRider [dot] com if you want a quick response.

@Knight: lights are definitely on our mind right now. Eventually, we will probably have two solutions: one that can mount to the crash bars, and another that would be mounted to the bike itself. Thanks for giving us a heads up about what you’re looking for.

@Dallara: appreciate all of you taking the time to give feedback, and your input about the luggage rack is great. Right now we’re still collecting data (as we are in the last stages of finalizing the luggage rack design itself before production) to determine what solution makes most sense.

Our pannier system is at an early stage, but once we get further along I will share more. We’re pretty excited about this one… :deal

@johnpitts01: glad to be included on the list. Hit us up if you have questions about any of that stuff, or drop by one of our IMS shows so we can talk.

Jeremy, thanks for putting an answer to many of our wants:clap
I have been in contact with Christina, and she has been very helpful.

I am just waiting for your final production as I am sure others are to.

Sorry for the late get back...

No I did not have to call but ended up doing anyway.
If you use the internet they will ship for free..:clap
However, when I tried to complete the sale the page would not load, so that's when I called.

They gave me free shipping because of that. Good company with good communication.
They were working on that problem and it may work now.

Definitely, I'll give all the off road a whirl with it...technicals, we'll see. As a daily driver I might take some caution with the heavy off road work.

But it is definitely going off road.

If I can remove both side panels without taking off the crash bars I would say I'm inclined to go with your bars. I like the design and I'm burned out on having to remove the Givi bars on my Strom to get anything done.

I'm liking the bash plate and the crash bars. For the panniers, if you are able to make them with the exhaust cut out so they appear symmetrical, I think I will be adding them to the list of part to purchase also.

I can actually remove all the plastic without touching the bars. (DL1000)

but don't ask me to explain it to you, but it's a combination of Zen, Origami and Twister. I manage to do it everytime but never remember enough detail to write it down.

    Cheers

    Jeremy,

Great to meet you at the Long Beach show (and letting me help you push your S-10 up on stage!). I was very impressed with your products and attention to detail.

Your skid plate, crash bars and universal joint guard have easily made the list.

The luggage rack is also a possibility, depending on if it can be used with the 'additional' luggage rack that Wasp found...by having the option of not using the bottom mounting bracket (where the storage cubby is) in this configuration. It would be great to have this flexibility. A storage bag for the cubby is a great idea...possibly some sort of Pelican-like storage box?

Here is the 'additional' luggage rack from Wasps thread.

:D Yeah, I didn't include Phase I and II columns with the $$...

    Phase I (Immediate): $2600

Phase II (wait 5 minutes): $2300

I have a tendency to overbuild...BUT I will say...SOME crap is more expensive that others...ahem, ahem:

Personally I'm diggin' the look of the Altrider crashbars, so don't change them tooooo much. But then, I'm admittedly a function over form person and functionality always looks sweet to me.

Though they are stainless steel, I'll be ordering the black coated version, just because the silver would contrast too much with the black panels on the U.S. version.

So go ahead and change them if you can attract a wider audience by making 'em more perty, just please keep them as functional as now including being able to remove the side panels without removing the crash bars. I don't mind extra clearance between the bars and panels and don't think it looks bad at all. If nothing else, it provides an even greater margin of error when the beast goes over and touches down, keeping the panels even further from harms way. :thumb

+1. We need to be able to tilt up the tank for air filter servicing without having to remove the crash bars.

With the rear pillion removed and some form of rear rack in the lowered position is how I'm currently planning on running mine. The large grab handles would be handy for picking up a dropped bike, but there are mini-grab handles still on the rear pillion platform that should suffice. Also in wasps photo below (and some of his others), the bike looks soooo much better with the passenger pegs and huge passenger peg arms removed (especially on the left/exhaust side). A more svelte and compact (read: emergency only and not day-to-day) passenger peg system would be a good aftermarket hard part.

That is what I'm looking for, except remove the two plastic pieces and replace with two alum. pieces. It would be nice if both are drilled to accept a Givi Monokey top case and have slots for tie downs.
    I'm not asking for much..:rofl
