It was washed to take pics, not likely to be that clean again ;) I'll be commuting on it, taking it out on logging roads and some easy trail riding.

one of my favorite color schemes. i like to spray a ton of silicone all over the underside of the plastics and the areas that youll never clean, helps the junk fall off.

Motorcyclist cited for dog riding on back

OLYMPIA, Wash. – A motorcyclist was cited for endangering his dog while driving down the highway Wednesday.
The dog was precariously perched on the seat behind its owner, which is not only dangerous – but illegal.
The Washington man was driving down Highway 3 in Kitsap County when a trooper spotted him and pulled the motorcycle over.
The trooper also tweeted photos of the man and his dog, to warn others of the dangers.

Guess I'll have to get serious on some options should I want to ride in the Evergreen State!

I was out doing some high speed dirt road riding today, dancing the TW over the holes and so on, great fun.
But I have what sounds like ignition knock out of the motor at higher revs and wide open throttle.
    I am running premium gas.

So I went home and hooked the timing light up, removed the timing cover, started the bike and got oil all over the place.
I then tried clear packing tape over the hole (worked great on my old Triumphs) and got even more oil out, it was pumping out a gap in the tape.
    I gave up.

    Is the timing adjustable?
The pickup is under the side cover and I do not have a gasket (yet) to check and see if the cdi trigger coil can be moved, or if its fixed in place.

Sounds kind of nasty for normal motor noise, but my ears tend to pick up motor noises really well.
The motor only has 550 miles on it...

Here is the page on timing from the manual. It looks like all you can do is check for damage. Suggestions from prstone50, my mechanical consultant: "He may be running lean on carb or has a bunch of carbon build up making his compression too high. "

    Thanks for the info.
Yes, I looked through the on line manual and found the same thing.
Spark plug looks good, stock bike, 500 miles on it, no oil use, no smoke, etc.
Stock main jet also, which is lean....
Motor does it hot or cold.
A bigger main jet is on my shopping list...

The TW is quite noisy. In fact, if you put an aluminum (real) skid plate on it, you will think it's going to grenade because the sound bounces off of it and back to you. Just make sure you continue to check valve clearances and such as recommended since you can barely hear them over the "normal" racket and enjoy it.

It does have an aluminum skid plate on it....

I checked the valves at 250 miles (were ok) and its got a little over 500 miles on it now.
The reason I asked about the timing was that I wanted to make sure no one screwed something up, but I don't think the past owners did anything to the bike.
    A 2003 with 250 miles on it!
