Today is Monday, November 26th, 2012. Almost 4 years since I started this ride report. Today is a special day for me because my dream is starting to come true. This morning Road Runner Magazine posted my first blog entry to their website. Hopefully this will lead to bigger things, like bike reviews and tours. For now, this is a great start and I attribute this site for making it happen. ADVrider.com is an awesome place filled with great people. Good things can happen if you follow your heart. Thank you everyone for your interest in this story and my life. You all helped me get a job doing something that I love.

This is the link to my first published article, and I think you may recognize the photo.

Hi Luke. I've enjoyed reading your posts on your travels. I traversed many of the same roads 8 years ago with my wife in an '82 Mercedes 300SD. Not as many jungle tracks, but that car handled many double track sections that required maintaining copious momentum to get through (especially up near Samuc Champey in Guatemala). The entire 2 months my mantra was "Why am i not on my motorcycle?".

I'm trading a '07 KLX351s for your old Husky as soon as I get back from St. Croix next week. That Husky has some adventure left in it I'm sure.

Congrats on following your dream and having it become your reality!:clap

    Luke,

A long time lurker and I happen to see this RR. Freak'n killer RR! Thanks for all your hard work and efforts. I just got through with a winter project on a rough Husky SM610. I hope to sport tour on it and love it so far. Ride reports like your inspire people to get out there and do it.

    Thanks,

    Eric

I'm at my home in Lansing, MI. I only do the fishing thing in June and July. It's coming up. Year 10 of running a boat.

Well, 116 pages read in 2 days. Brilliant stuff Luke. Very inspirational.

I'll make a start on your other RR - '25,000 Miles with Nick and Luke' on after this post.

    Big respect man.

I read this with great enjoyment and admiration for your sense of adventure and humanity.

I've been riding bikes since I was 17, and again after a 20 year gap since April 2007. Got my first dual-purpose/dirt bike about 2 weeks ago - a 2003 TE610E of course!

I can't remember if I found this blog before or after I picked up the bike, however that doesn't matter anyway. :D

Looking forward to reading your Africa - Nordkapp adventure ride next.

Best of luck and health in everything you do Luke.

    cheers,

    Dave

PS _ If ever you get down to Australia, there's a bed and a bike for you to use in and around Canberra.

Cool trip and now it looks like our rider/writer Luke is on TV with a reality fishing show, Alaska Battle on the Bay on Animal Planet. Captaining a salmon boat instead of the husky.

Yep----just got thru watchin' episode 1.
I saw luk on there and thought---------no way.
    But it was him.
Pretty interesting---Luk seems to be running the least expensive boat of all and it will be neat to see how he does with it. I'm sure he knows his stuff.

I saw his (and mine) old Husky last year over in Indiana on a ride I went on.

Pretty cool Luk !!!!!!!! Livin' life to the fullest that's for sure.

This was the Husky that Luk bought off of me when it was brand new---the day I bought it.

And somewhere along it's very hard life--------it ended up here.

What kind of bike you have now Luk ?????

After my Husky I knew you had a 690---but didn't know what you had now or what you'd been up to.
I've got a 690 now and have had good luck with it so far-------but by no means put the hard miles you put on yours.

I have been to Alaska since the last time you were at my place. I'm still in Illinois at the same place.

Hey Mark, Always great to hear from you. It's amazing the story of all that your 610 has gone through. It reminds me of my 690. RTW Noah is still riding that thing. He is much of a better mechanic that I was with it. I love that it's still running strong.

Right now I have a WR250R that I have not ran since riding it back on highways after the TAT from Oregon to Michigan a year and a half ago. I did just get a CRF450 plated to ride for all of February from LA to Cabo throughout Baja California. I'm really excited for that trip to come up. This last year, I purchased some property in Tennessee and have traveled down interstate 69 from Michigan to Tennessee multiple times. Each time thinking of meeting you and buying your Husky. Next trip, I should PM you for your address and stop by for a visit. It's been a few years and would be wonderful to meet you again.

So from day 1, the purpose of this ride report was to act as a journal for myself. I was entering a foreign country solo on a motorcycle with obviously no clue of what I was doing. It was exhilarating, but I was still by myself, a factor that would abruptly put an end to the trip. Going solo, I knew that all of the memories would slowly fade away unless I wrote them down. This site was the perfect way to Journal. I thank everyone who followed me and talked to me during this trip as it kept me motivated and disciplined to write down everything that happened. Now looking back 6 years later, I could not be happier. I am so fortunate to have this story to reread and remember for the rest of my life.

Looking back now, it is so interesting to see how in the last 6 years I have developed and changed as a person. I can't wait to see what lies ahead in the next 6.

Life is a amazing gift and can be a great adventure if you so choose. I guess by writing this post I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still around and still trying to live an adventure. I never gave up on that, I just gave up on finishing the end of this story, but really the story never ends, it just starts a new chapter...

Last Spring, I was approached by Animal Planet to be featured in a new reality TV show that would be filmed in Bristol Bay, Alaska where I have been running a boat for the last ten years. I was ecstatic to take the chance, not for the money (as there wasn't any) nor for the fame, but for the chance to be a story teller again. For the chance to be an example of what happens when you dream and believe in something. For the chance to have a better way for my friends and family to maybe understand my job that allows me to travel and ride motorcycles so freely.

Now I present, in not so much my words this time as the words and opinions of the editors at Animal Planet, the story of how I fund my adventures. This is where my username comes from. Kind of like how the Hobbit was released after the Lord of the Rings, Here is the prequel to "Three Months on a Husky TE610"...The story behind the user: "Fish Fund"

I hope you enjoy the show...

    Alaska: Battle on the Bay

Thursdays on Animal Planet at 10:00.

    January 8th to February 26th

    This is the first episode

P.S. Mods, feel free to Nuke this post if I am breaking some kind of self-promotion rules. I have never read the rules and probably never will, I am only looking to inspire people to "Go For It", as that's what I think the purpose of a Ride Report truly is.
