    New Years Day Ride 2011

Okay, so the social groups got canned and with them my NYD ride planning thread. So Let's Start Again shall we?

The basic plan is to meet up, ride, eat somewhere, ride back. I'm looking for suggestions and Ideas.

It is 2011, so we could try to find an 11 theme...

Here's one: the eBiker News 11th annual Ride to Nowhere.
Frank's Truckstop to the Thunderbird Grill in Smithfield.
    http://www.bikerenews.com/Stories/NewYearsRidetoNowhere.html

Another Option is to stretch our legs a bit more through the backroads to the Virginia Diner in Wakefield. I called to verify they'd be open and they will. Also have several other groups of bikes planning to show up.

I plan on being home in the early afternoon to spend time with family.

Anyone interested in a Waffle/Pancake shop in Williamsburg, maybe take the Scottland Ferry?

Wakefield diner is always a wait, and Thunderbird grill will be packed since it's an advertised event. Another possibility is Jeb's if there open.

Yeah, got a PM from Gadget Boy saying they were going to be removed, tried to grab my post to copy it here, and the group is already gone.

Good points on the two restaurants. I can check with Lisa and see if Jeb's will be open, not very exotic, but at least we know the food will be good.

Okay - the extended forecast is calling for 60% chance of Rain on the 1st. High of 55 degrees.

Anyone still interested in riding? I got rain gear.

I'm going to kluge my bike together over the next coupe of days so I can get a little riding time in.

I doubt Jeb's will be open, but I'll check on it.

I'm scheduled to have duty but I may be able to trade New Years Eve for New Years Day. If so I'm in.

    Merry Christmas All,

Nice route Jason, VA Diner will certainly work, but it is going to be busy - seems like it always is. I would like to do something a little more out of the way.

I've been working on a few options. Loop Route around Cheasapeake, then ending at Sandbridge Grill may be appealing, or we could head north to Gwynn's Island? Will try to make a few calls on Monday to see who's gonna be open.

I'm also up for the Ferry Ride and return to the Jolly Roger (without the detour to Duck).

Let's hear some ideas - Anyone got a good stop for grub?

I suppose I need to get this figured out. I've got a few irons in the fire, so I really can't take too a long of a ride.

I forgot to call today, but will check to see if Jeb's is going to be open. I'd prefer to support one of our favorite places to start off the year.

I haven't been to the beach in a while so how's this sound....

Sandbridge Market to Jeb's in Carrolton. Those that live inland will ride in to Sandbridge. We can meet at Franks Truckstop if you'd like.

Then We'll meet up at Sandbridge, regroup and ride to Jeb's. I talked to Lisa at Jeb's today, They'll be open on New Years Day, but will be closing early. Mid-Day lunch will work just fine.

Need to call out to Sandbridge market in the morning. Lost my internet today, just got it back.

    What da think? :ear

Game On. My bike is rideable and the weather is looking promising.

I verified the Sandbridge Market will be open. Let's Meet at 9:00 and get on the road by 9:30. Avoiding Freeways and tooling the side roads will eat about 2 hrs.
We can avoid all freeway, or just use a little bit to get around the Dismal Swap which looks like this:

Bridge out? Can't find anything online. No worries, we can use Princess Ann to Pungo Ferry.

Wouldn't mind starting a lil bit closer to home though. It's an hour and 20 minutes to get to the start point for me.

Any other peninsula dwellers going on this ride? We could meet up and ride over to sandbridge.

I'm in North Suffolk, a good 45 minutes to the start myself.

You've got the right idea to hook up locally to ride to the start.

I'm going to be at Frank's Truck stop at Bower's Hill for my first cup of Joe at 7:30 or so, if anyone wants to ride to Sandbridge with me. Figure on rolling out of the parking lot at 8:00 sharp.
