We were fortunate enough to have Tiffany as company last night here in Northern California. :clap If you have the opportunity to hear her speak, by all means do so. She's got some fascinating stories to tell, and Thelma is a real feast for the eyes. :evil

    Hi Ian
glad you're enjoying my RR, unfortunately I won't be at Nakusp as I fly home to the UK at the end of July- a shame as I had such a great time when I was there two years ago, it really is an idyllic location. Enjoy.

    Another beautiful camp spot

a bit off putting to find this on the ground in the morning,

and then later having to confess to carrying a bullet...is there a law against carrying concealed ammunition? is it even safe?

trying to get out of the arroyo was harder than getting in

the sand seemed to get softer

    the other cute highway hound.

breakfast, a few miles down the road at Peggy Sue's Diner, which I'm sure many of you are familiar with.

and YES!! they serve tea, although I have learnt the hard way that I need to ask for HOT tea- otherwise it's a cold, sweet drink which bears no resemblance to real tea.
The waitress was dressed for the part as a diner waitress

I'm not sure what happens in some parts of America, do you just run out of names and inspiration for things to call places..this is a classic one

Yes it's safe to carry the ammo around. Its not illegal unless you're a convicted felon or something. If your planning on keeping it for some reason you can't fly with it unless it's in checked baggage. If you just need to get rid of it then turn it over to the next law enforcement officer you come across.

    Hi Tiffany,

Got a chuckle out of the Bobby Charlton reference, you look nothing like him, maybe Jack ;-)

Not sure if your planning to go through Vancouver or not. If you are and need any help or advice feel free to PM or reply on thread.

Have warm dry garage for Thelma ( if she is ok sharing ) and you are welcome to pitch your tent in the garden, OUCH my wife just kicked me.

Seriously, we have access to pasties, a spare room and an unlimited supply of hospitality (sarcasm included )

    Take Care

Don't put it in your checked baggage.

The scanner might see it and you will miss your flight explaining to them.

I'm looking forward to seeing Tiffany in Boise, Idaho on Thursday June 7th at the Happy Trails shop! :D

I had parts on order that I was traveling to pick up and was pleasantly surprised at the coincidental presentation...:clap
Looks like I'm staying for dinner and and a slideshow! :freaky:clap

Ammo- Out west you shouldn't have an issue but back east here (massachusetts) it can get you in trouble. (you need a permit for even the shell no matter the whole round. ) Have fun and stay safe.

yep, I keep forgetting I've got that bullet, I'll hand it in to someone responsible and NOT my friend's teenage son who is begging to have it and take it apart:huh

It's scary how much is on Wikipedia nowadays, Have you been contacted about doing any presentations in North Carolina on this trip?

    Ummm....no.
And now I don't think it's going to be on my route plan, convoluted though it is. If it's not between Seattle and Louisiana, then it won't be hapening this year:D sorry.

and if you don't know who Austin is, just google images of him to see what I mean.
after what had turned out to be quite a nice ride across the deserts of Utah and Nevada, I'd arrived in LA and I was ready to get down to business. Thelma needed some serious TLC and I needed the right outfit for the job.

    Enter stage left

The work was being led by Joe (who is in Moto Enduro/Terra Circa)
He started by taking a long look at Thelma from various angles, whilst I warned him about the "Pandora's Box" effect that always seems to happen when someone takes something off her.

He was ruthless and dived straight in
    [IMG]

After perusing the protective clothing available

I was put on scrubbing duty

I'm doing the Debbie Magee role here, directing the hose pipe while Paul Daniels takes the lead (cultural reference possibly over the heads of Yanks:norton)

I was even let loose with an aerosol can

    Friends came round to assist

you can always spot the arty types by the way they wield a spray can

    sparks were flying

I got on with some engine stuff

    and valve clearance

always tricky getting Thelma's rocker covers on and off due to the somewhat distorted crash bars (not sure quite how they ended up like that)

    Hey Marty
how is Duxford treating you? Is it Oxford or the Cambridge one you're in? Is the beer warm enough for you?

and yes, it was good to have the time to work on Thelma and to have Joe directing operations- or at least taking on the dismantling of the front end as he then had the responsibility for piecing her back together- obviously with my inout. He was somewhat surprised at the state of the electrics, but then I explained about the minor fire behind the dash clocks in Japan:eek1 and it all made sense.
