Tiger mods

    OK you guys, what have you changed and why and how has it worked out?

    here's my list:

    On my 95 Tiger I changed the front fender out for a high dirt bike fender, allowing me to run bigger tires.

    I got rid of the j box on the front brake lines and routed dual braided ss lines from the master cylinder to the front brakes. I replaced the rear brakeline with braided ss while I was at it.

    I put a cut out switch in the low beam circuit and routinely start the bike with the headlights off(hoping to reduce the chances of low battery condition damaging the sprag clutch). Being able to switch the headlights off allows me some comfort if I drain the battery in the back country; more likely to be able to start the bike and also able to run lights off to hasten a recharge. Just cutting the low beams means I can flip on the high beams or touch the pass button if I am running without lights and suddenly need added visibility( glimpsing a log truck thru the trees).

    I cut a hole in the sprocket cover so I can inspect the front sprocket condition without draining the oil and pulling the cover.

    I welded up a folding shift lever(having bent it following the ADVriders thru Whiskey Dick Creek).

    I popped off the rubber foot peg covers to reveal the serrated dirt bike pegs beneath.

    I dropped a tooth on the front sprocket courtesy an AFAM chain and sprocket kit

    I fabbed a rock gaurd for the headlights

    I installed stronger headlights(100/90 I think- don't remember)

    Had a half cover made that rolls up and rides on the luggage rack

    Removed the OEM fuel filter and rerouted the fuel lines, replacing the filter with a rebuildable filter out where I can get to it

    Replaced the OEM airfilter with a K&N, opened both intakes installed prefilters in the intakes and wrapped foam around the intakes to seal that area off from the crap the rear wheel throws at it.

    Moved the fuse box forward, out from the tail piece, under the seat so I can service the fuses without unloading luggage and dissassembling the tail piece

    Added fused accessory sockets to the dash board

    NEP throttle lock, gel grips and lever covers

    Barnet heavy duty clutch springs

    upgraded the alternater bolts

    shimmed the front fork springs, added heavier fork oil and dropped the fork tubes thru the triple clamps

    and of course the sidecar and extended bash plate

    I put new rubber on the bike today and came across another mod I'd done. I lost the front axle nut when riding up in the woods. I nursed it home and swiped the axle nut off the /2, drilled the axle and put a cotter key thru. no more problem.

    Well I just got 600 miles on the thing, but I do know of a few thing I am going to do.

    From Thunderbike...
    Crash bars
    sump guard
    oil cooler guard
    radiator guard

    from Triumph
    center stand
    luggage

    I have put an Oxford humpback on the tail for the commute & around town.

    I will probly come up with more things to do to it soon...

    Love your setup, Menace. I maybe getting a hack this fall...I'm thinking more the Ural Sportsman route, but who knows what could popup on ebay or cycletrader.com??

    Thanx. A data point: Amy, who has done many more miles as a passenger than I have, dislikes the Sputnik and much prefers the Ural genre of sidecars, for comfort and ease of entry.
    I like the way my current rig is set up, but the Ural (and it's cousins) is very stout, doesn't rattle as much and has a little more trunk space. The Ural trunk is easier to get into, the Dnepr trunk is more water tight. The Sputnik is lighter and looks slightly more modern.
    And I agree, there is nothing like a nice hump:evil

    I've changed out my factor hand gaurds for Acerbis Rally Pro gaurds on my 200 tiger. Not only does it give wind and wet protection to the hands it also protects the levers. Just incase the bike goes down. The new hand gaurds should be put on with the optional "spoilers" for Acerbis for the Rally Pro gaurds. The spoilers make the hand gaurds alittle taller and offer yet more protection.
