For a spectacular and fairly unknown route south from Bishop find your way across the Kern Plateau. From 395 turn right just before the tiny town of Pearsonville. There should be a small sign that says "Kennedy Meadows 25 mi." And I believe the road is called 9 mile canyon. (Sorry I've been going up there so long I don't pay attention any more) That road will take you west to and through Kennedy Meadows, up over Sherman pass and into Kernville. There's some good OHV trails (you might wish you had your 450) but no real lodging, just camping or RV. Once in Kernville the highway will take you out through Bakersfield to the superslab 5. This won't add more than an hour or 2 to your drive. Of course if the weather is turning nasty you'll rethink that route, they don't plow the top of that road!

Lol, was there in May on my western blitz trip. I’d been up to a frozen lake Sabrina and raced a black angry rain storm to the bbq place. By the time I finished it was nice again.

We are probably going to chill today and head to Bodie and see the old mining town. Tomorrow was thinking of going to Bishop and taking a crack at going up woodcutter trail. And was thinking of maybe hitting the trails nw of the Hwy that goes up to Lake Sabrina

Bodie is interesting, you'll enjoy it I'm sure! Woodcutter is really fun, try to find the route that takes you out of Bishop south and makes a counterclockwise route
around the mountains so you end up coming OUT Woodcutter down into Bishop. If you need tracks I have some from the Bishop 3 day Dual Sport Events. I'll dig them up and
    post them.

Bodie the abandoned mining town was a nice attraction. What the hell were 8000 people thinking living at 8500 feet!? California is full of pleasant places, Bodie is not one of them.

Later we visited the Devils Postpile National Monument. Was not quite as impressive as Yosemite but a quick visit we had.

I have logged so many miles, especially the last 6 months. Lots of fun but I feel my injuries and fatigue catching up with me. On the way back from the park we hit some trails by Mammoth Lakes and I crashed in a turn. Banged knee up, not a big deal but I felt like I was on empty.

After this trip I’m going to ride until it gets wet and rainy. Then the bike is going to be parked for at least a few weeks.

You know its coming, dang it!

After as wet a winter as we had last year, I'm really dreading it too. :(

I just got a new to me 15 KTM 500 EXC with 24 hrs on it and have been riding the hell out of it in Capitol Forest while I still can.

If you really want to master that 500, take it to Tahuya when it’s wet. Tommy trail or similar.
Here’s a recent video of mine from that trail.

Icemans rear tire blew up very shortly before the epic woodcutter singletrack ride started.

Sometimes the ride just goes wrong. We went back to Mammoth from Bishop and rode some dogshit trails and then drank a bit too much.

All things for a reason. Bishop take two tomorrow!!
