Hi, I am doing a little informal research for my own info. Is there anyone on here who has been running Metzler Block K's on the front of their tug.....
    Thanks,

I'm running an Avon Triple Duty sidecar tire in the front. Similar type tread, same flat profile. The bike tracks great and the tire is wearing very slowly. What's your question specifically?

I have a Metzler ME880 (round m/c tire) that is wearing quite well.
More than 1K miles on it with no real signs of wear.
    Cheers.

Thanks, that is the 19" tire right? Well I have been running the Metzler Block K tire on the front rim of my 1980/83 GL1100/Ural combo for about ten years, and many 10s of thousands of miles.( I think I have gone through maybe three tires in that position...I also run one on my sidecar).) I have had zero problems but it was brought to my attention on another forum that they were not meant for running on the front of a tug. I went to the Metzler site and on the chart, they are only indicated for running on the rear of the tug and on the sidecar.

It got me wondering and I don't want to be doing something that may cause me great grief because of a mistake.

I actually have been running it as a tubeless on a tubeless rim but am thinking I will install a tube just to be safe if I don't change it to an actual moto tire....

I hate to change because I get really great long life with the K.

So really the question is specific to the Metzler tire. I don't know anything about the Avon never having used one.

    BeeMaa,

Thanks for the post....I may go to a tire like that, depending on what I can find out...I appreciate the heads up...

It has been many years since I ran one but I put about 100K on these tires on the front of a GL1100 sidecar rig. (50K before I found out about them on other tires) Only issue I had is that they expand at speed so if fender clearence is close they may rub. They are fairly low speed rated tube type tire.
I had no issues with them on the front of my bike.

Thanks Jay, I am really glad to hear that....I am customarily a two lane hwy. guy and rarely drive at freeway speeds...I seem to get the best mpg at 55-65.

I do have lots of clearance for it. What do you think about the wisdom of using a tube in it versus tubeless on a cast wheel?
    Thanks,
    Brian

The tire says on the side "tube type" while you may be able to run it tube less and many people no doubt do. I will not and have not.
