    71 r75/5. what metric sizes replace old style numbers? nice simple tire and place to order. i like simple.

    bridgestone, avon, continential or how about irc?

    Avon Roadrider tires are in "correct" inch sizes: 3.25-19 and 4.00-18 .

    One metric conversion I've seen is 100/90=3.25-19 and 110/90=4.00-18 .

    well, I just got a shinko something or other for the back of my Guzzi, in a 110/90-18, and it is a great tire, period. It just happened to cost $52. We'll see how it lasts. I think, but I'm not sure, that there is a 19" available for the front on an airhead.

    I had a set of BT45's on one of my bikes, and they rode great, but I won't buy them again. In 3500 miles, the back tire was not totally worn out, but it was pretty close. The front tire was cupping, but had lots of tread left. I just sold the bike, so I won't get to see how they finish off.Also, the sizing was very small. The rear, 110/90-18 looked about right, maybe a little small, but the front, 90/90-18 looked like it belonged on a moped. TINY! The last tire I bought to put on an airhead was a Michelin Pilot Activ for the front of my /5. It is a very nice tire, but a little expensive IMO. I really like the Shinko I got for the Guzzi, and it was super cheap. I like super cheap/great tires.

    The Bridgestones come in 2 different flavours.

    SP11 Spitfire - pretty much equivelent to the standard OEM tire that came on the bike. Fairly long lasting if ridden normally.
    or
    BT45 Battleaxe - Shorter life span due to softer compound - for the more "spirited" riders.

    Both are excellent tires. One thing you have to remember is that you need to run higher air pressure than what the original manual says. These are newer design and work best with a higher pressure. On my 81 R100RT I run 38 rear and 34 Front. You have to play with the pressures a bit to get it right for you and your riding style.

    I have used both the BT45 and SP11 tires - not mixed though. I prefer the SP11 for my style of riding and find they do very well in both dry and wet conditions. Plus they tend to be a little cheaper.

    My recent tires have been: Spitfires, then Roadrunners, now PilotActivs.

    Spitfires didn't follow rain grooves. Other than that, solid, but rather heavy and plodding. They wear well, but no fun for my taste.

    The Roadrunners were the opposite. Eyeopening as to how much feel one could get out of early 70s airhead suspension. Truly modern as opposed to the spitfires. The are, however, a bit twitchy in certain circumstances. But I felt more confident at full lean than I ever have on this bike.

    Pilot Activs seem in the middle. They are notably heavier than the Avons, and on the bike they feel it. But there is good sensitivity, and while they do follow grooves more that Spitfires, not as bad as the Avons. I'm also more confident in Michelin's quality control than Avon's.

    I just put Continental Classic Attack radials designed for old airheads 100/90-19 f 110/ 90-18 rear. Bike will be ready to start for the first time in 18years in about 2 weeks...I'll let you know how they work.

    i went with these from the super store. free shipping. makes the r75 feel nimble. the old tires were an ancient dunlop and the oldest chin shen on earth so not to surprising.
