First recorded mention of the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Minsk refers to 1067, and at various times the town was under the influence of Kiev, Lithuania, Poland and Russia. Since 1919, Minsk was the capital of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, which was part of the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Minsk since 1991 is the capital of the independent Republic of Belarus.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

We drove from Moscow (Russia) 8 May 2010 at 7 am. and after passing <st1:metricconverter w:st="on" ProductID="740 kilometers">740 kilometers</st1:metricconverter> were in Minsk about 4 pm. According to Belarus is a pleasure to go: good coverage, no settlement, few cars, but gas stations too little: we out of gas a few miles from Minsk, well that was a supply in a <st1:metricconverter w:st="on" ProductID="1.5 liter">1.5 liter</st1:metricconverter> bottle of gasoline.

In Minsk, we left luggage in the apartment which we rented for 2 days (terrible, smoke-filled studio apartment) and went to explore the city.
During World War II Minsk for over 3 years was in the occupation and during that time was destroyed 80% of housing stock, destroyed all the factories, electric power plant, water conduit, sewerage, telephone exchange, telegraph office. After the war, was approved master plan for planning and reconstruction of the city. In those days, the entire architecture was a "Soviet" and therefore modern Minsk is very similar to Moscow. But in differs from Moscow, in Minsk much less people and a lot of space: the wide avenues and streets, many parks and gardens.

On one of the main square in Minsk in honor of the victory was organized by the stylized Fair. The atmosphere was excellent - friendly, fun, wartime songs and dances.

My favorite part of the Victory Parade (It is held in almost all cities and countries of the former Soviet Union) is a parade of military hardware.

Komorowski market in Minsk - the central and biggest market in the country. Behind the main building, built in 1980, placed a lot of indoor and outdoor stalls. In the square near the market - bronze sculptures.

National Library of Belarus in Minsk. It`s very pity that we did not have the time, and we did not go inside and have not looked this building in the evening! From sunset until 12 pm illuminates the building, which forms a giant (area <st1:metricconverter w:st="on" ProductID="1,985 m">1,985 m</st1:metricconverter> ²) color LED screen, the colors and patterns on it are constantly changing. And all this can be seen from space.
According to the site «Village of Joy» National Library of Belarus is in the top 50 most "unusual buildings of the world» and occupies 24 th place. But at the same time, the building has fallen into a list of the ugliest buildings of the world, compiled by U.S.A. magazine «Travel + Leisure".
