after the motor goes pop from a lack of oil.:eek1 Depending how bad the oil loss was,,Every bearing in the motor/tranny posibily needs to be replaced. possibly the shafts that hold the gears..The labour alone would kill you after pressing out and in all the bearings in the cases, Pressing the connecting rod and bearings or replacing the crank complete,,,let alone replacing all the bearings, piston , top end, cams, rollars, clutch and clutch bearings..

did I miss anything? The metal fillings will go everywhere in the motor.. No escaping it....:norton

yes you might get away with missing some bearings but from a dealers opinion it could be complete rebuild. its a huge job.:eek1 In good faith the dealer cannot cut corners, it may come back on them... having said that the tech may cut corners for whatever reasons, too busy, bad attitude, it didn't look too bad.. you'll never know.

    sad, but get another bike////:huh

I'd be interested to know how much a brand new engine direct from Kawasaki is, if it's not much more that might be another option as you should get a warranty on the entire engine as a "spare part"

12 months ago I sold my 09 KLR to an inmate for under $5k. Only 18000 k and a bucket load of extras including modded suspension.

In your case.... find a low mileage bike and change your farkles!

When my 610 did a main bearing and bits of steel tore thru the engine, $4200. Parts list was long and extensive, all bearings replaced, new rod, piston, re-nikasilled cylinder, valves, seats. The gear box was fine though. All genuine husky parts. Labour was definately the cheapest part... And there was some minor diagnosis $ before we realised how bad the situation was.

I should think a higher volume seller like KLR and availability of parts should see the cost lower than 5k! Anything more than my $ i was looking for another bike to raid. Having done a re build over purchasing another bike, i should have taken the 2nd option.
