Thanks Joel. TBH the 4/3rds would be perfect, but teething problems with the camera have made it rather difficult to recommend. Cleaning the sensor is rather hard, and it might not always power on when I ask it to, plus I've had issues with the shutter freezing and ruined photos in certain low light conditions that are well documented problems.

I would agree the Canon would be a bit big for solo work, but if your g/f is operating it then why not? Keep in on a bag on-top the pannier lid or somesuch. It's a proven camera so shouldn't give you the hassle I've had.

I suppose the journey to Wales doesn't really fit into a 'tour of the british north' :) though for the sake of completion, here it is.

The 990 was now due a service and certainly a new front tyre after this unplanned trip.

    The End.

I'm lucky to be close enough to know and enjoy a lot of these roads but that was a great read.

Particularly laughed at "Muggle Fugger". Very good. :lol3

    Excellent stuff Martin!!
I was on the Orkneys forra few days last summer, seeing the photo of the flattie bar on the side of the Stromness hotel made me chuckle, had one or two drunken nights in there while up north!! Ha ha!!.

    Cheers.

Most enjoyable , thanks. The scottish roads seem to be extremely "grippy" possibly for the winter conditions. You are not the first person to scrub off a tyre in those parts.
I also thought you were using a go pro and like the shots which seem to have been taken about head height and showing motion blur, very effective.:clap:clap

I drove the road from Glasgow to Oban in July 2013. It was glorious weather and there were thousands of bikes. I'll be back on two wheels some time soon. Thanks for the great report.
