They are missing 3 inches on the suspension, shortarse bike only, now put the engine in an xchallenge or xr frame and i might be interested.

    Thanks though.

Getting rid of two bikes here just so i have more room and don't service the wrong bike again:shog

Looking at riding up to Townsville at hte end of next mopnth. Rough plan is to scarper from Canberra by 3.00 pm & then head for either Coonamble or Nyngan ( still ttrying to decide) that night. If I go via Coonamble 1100km would put me at Clermont. Being coal mining area should I assume that accomodation( pub room) would be next to non existant or very $$$?
the alternative is Nyngan first night then cut a track through Charleville, Barcy & end up at Torrens Creek. Is there accomodation/meals at Torrens creek pub & would you stay there?? Going to be on the GTR so doing lots of dirt not a real option. the dirt into Torrens should be fine, been through last year on the 950 & 3 months age in the ute

Dennis, I've stayed at the torrens creek pub. You can get motel style rooms . They were $90, but probably around the $100 now or camp out the back as we did . The evening meal was good.

If you get near the torrens creek pub, turn left and go 45k's to the prairie pub and stay there. Tom has a good camping spot for bikes or rooms. If you do go there ,I'll ride out for the evening and have an ale or 2 with ya.

What about Pentland? The Caravan park there has cabins I see :brow 100 meters from the pub. What was the road noise like at TC? Those truckies love that exhaust brake rolling through there late at night. :eek1

Pentland was the worst for the trucks at night. In saying that, the caravan park is good and they have good tucker and serve a good breakfast. The pub food was crap , although I ordered for us all and got the blame for a below par meal :evil.

I wouldn't mind checking out the balfes creek pub one weekend.

Pete , there was a xr650 r for sale on gumtree in townsville. Was gunna have a look, but getting to old for kickstarts.

I'll have to see what time I can head off on the Tuesday. I might see if I can "bank" a couple of extra hours over the next week to trade off for a early departure. To get to Torrens I'll really need to be in Bourke the night before. As far as I can tell its about 870 from Bourke to Barcy & another 350 to Torrens. That seem about right OBJ? If I'm out of Canberra by midday I can get to bourke just before dark ( I hope! ) Hopefully somebody in the coalfields area will have some info as well

350 is correct Dennis, However, and I will only say this once :deal Do not attempt riding any of that section after 6 pm, the Roo's are bloody deadly at the moment and the undergrowth comes right to the edge.

I reckon I hit 200 along there 2 weeks ago in me truck it was like ten pin bowling. Every dog in the neighbourhood loves me truck .

Pull up here anyway, I wouldn't be on the road after 5.30 now Russian Roolette :eek1 You might get some chops and a coldie if your lucky.

Unfortunately I have to be in Townsville by midday to meet the plane bringing Mrs DD up. You can trust me when I say I'm well aware of roos after collecting on & writing off GTR mark1 last year & having one hopping down the highway at me this morning! I'm starting to think the run through Roma might be a better option

Sounds beautiful, just what I need the big fairing on the GTR for! The plan is to do the "house inspection" on Thursday the 24th, swan around fridaymaybe go for a ride up to the Atherton somewhere. Then hang aeround T'ville Saturday & leave at sparrows on Sunday for the run back home & Mrs DD gets the plane back later that day. Wifey gets in at about midday on the thursday. I was trying to limit the number of days off but am starting to think I may as well take the tuesday off as well. If I got away Monday & got to nyngan then I could do Barcy tuesday then have a day & a bit to get to Townsville via somewhere. Only been through Belyando at night so didnt see much. Is the road through My coolon to Bowen sealed or dirt? The GTR is not a dirt bike!!

that sounds interesting. Is it What you might call a well formed bit of dirt or a bit of a sandy, bulldust hole filled goat track! As an example I am happy to take the big roadie up the bit of dirt to Torrens creek. Been up there on the 950 & in the ute & it seems pretty good. I realise conditions can change due to weather & how many road trains have been flogging up & down the track

I dont know Torrens creek but the road is in good condition although some sections have a bit of crushed rock, other than that you should be right if you take it easy.

    Give 'em plenty, barra!

I ventured out of the SE corner last week up into the Central Highlands,
dodging plenty of those CQ roos and wild scrubbers.

Did the road north through Expedition NP, from Taroom to Bauhinia,
all good, graders been over it recently, plenty of corners & twisty bits,
    Glenhaughton - Mapala - Fairfield Rd ~200 klms & 3hrs,
made it up to Springsure before heading south.
