Yep. Muckin around usually gets me what I want. Though sometimes it takes a few goes at it. Good luck.

Yeah I'm not having any luck. The download of shonkymaps using basecamp is 70% done & been sitting. I'll get my brother in-law to suss it out when he's over on the weekend.

    So;

    Basecamp working on the PC
Shocky direct download to the GPS works.

?Shonky download to the PC is OK? Works with basecamp?

Are you using basecamp to download Shonky + some other map/s? to the GPS? And that is causing problems? You do realise that the GPS has a maximum limit memory wise for the maps .. 2G IIRC. Can you download one tile of shonky to the GPS? That would prove the systme works .. and you maybe running out of GPS memory...

    Shonky downloaded to GPS fine.
Basecamp downloaded to pc fine, but has very basic maps.
Shonky downloaded onto my PC fine. It's there, but opening it with Basecamp is where I am having no success.

I have tried to upload the Shonky maps from the GPS unit to my PC "Basecamp" with no success either.

You get what you pay for. That's why I use Memory-Maps! No probs.

I had issues installing shonky into basecamp initially.
I think you have to remove garmin mapping from basecamp and rename shonky to basecamp map name and reinstall.
Not 100% sure but I think shonky may have wobbly instructions on his site.

Ive downloaded Shonky atleast 50 times to different computers and its worked perfectly everytime. You dont install it into Basecamp.

I would like to have a version of OSM ... that
shows tracks at higher zoom levels like Tracks 4 Australia
shows National Parks/State Forests, camp sites, rivers/streams at higher zoom levels

Sorta an 'adventure touring' style of map using OSM data. Any thoughts?

As T4A and Shonky don't get updated .. I don't see frequent updating as a requirement .. maybe once a year? Normal OSM maps tend to be updated once a month.

Hi there. Just downloaded shonky maps onto gpsmap 60csx. Renamed the img accordingly and can open it no problem. Only gripe is that it won't route on the device. Keep getting the error : no route near starting point. Getting the feeling that shonky maps are no route able. Am I right in thinking so or do I need to install it via basecamp?

    Cheers

OSM are routable ... combine OSM and Shonky in basecamp/mapsource and select in the 60Csx...
OSM when you want routable ... Shonky for ? You can edit OSM where you find stuff missing.. just don't copy it across from shonky ... copyright issues. There are satelite views you can use in OSM for tracing.

I haven't used shonky yet. Have it installed on my 64s. Just wanted to install t4a as well so I could switch while out in the bush and see which I liked better...
