New to this ADV scene. I picked up an XR 400 a while back and got it plated and have been enjoying buzzing around the back roads, field accesses and creek bottoms of southern Illinois.

The reason for my post is this. I am going to the Gatlinburg area June 8-12 and find that I will have the better part of a day to kill waiting for the rest of my party to show. I am looking for suggestions for some places to buzz around for a few hours on Sunday June 9th. As mentioned, I am new to the offroady thing so not looking to scale Everest with the 400, just kill some time for a few hours and see some nice scenery.

Staying at 103 Silver Bell Lane in Gatlinburg, TN.

Any suggestions from the locals or those familiar with the area greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Mark

roaring fork road (one way) is super close to where youre staying. its paved but a neat road.

If you want to run some gravel or light/medium dirt the place with the most options is just east of G-burg ----- in the Cosby-Mt.Sterling - Hot Springs area.

If you want more tame gravel and more street you could ride over to cades cove - then parsons branch - 129 ---- then cruise over to cherokee and back over the mountain to g-burg. Thats a long pave haul on a 400 tho

do you have a gps that will download tracks to it?

I would strongly suggest giving Lt Dan a call at Great Smoky Mountain rentals in Townsend, the other side of the mountain. Dan has rentals but more importantly he know lots of places to ride between your area and surrounding areas of Western NC and TN. Great guy and he keeps maps at the shop you can buy.
