As part of my ongoing RTW trip I'm currently riding through North America.

As I'm planning on riding a fair few trails along the way I thought I'd post some of my photos of the trails as I go.

I started (in the USA) in Boston, I'm now in Las Vegas and will ride up to Alaska before heading south through Mexico in late October/November.

This will NOT be a Ride Report; for that see my website -
http://shortwayround.co.uk/
This will be only for photo's taken on dirt roads/trails etc. The rest of my photos are on my website.

Internet access will be sporadic so I'll post as and when I can.
To get things started, here's some photo's from my first 6 weeks...

Whilst looking for a decent route to Georgia from Bostom I came across the TWVT (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=384536). The title doesn't do it justice as it runs from Philadelphia to Jelico, TN and the start of the TAT. See also http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=572819

Great documentary, great ride.

I liked the record of your tire wear... as the pics go along, so does the knobbies, then on with the new treads = brilliant.

So IN for this.

I wish you sun, clean dirt, and wondering vistas on the rest of your journeys, my friend.
Though it doesn't look like that is coming in Cali this next week.

Try and let me know when you will be in N. NV on the TAT and I will bring the beer. :freaky

Thanks for the visit. It was great meeting you.
(Fun posting IN on your thread while you are out loading your bike. lol.)

Lovely pictures of chicken corners. I'd enjoy going back to that area again someday, although I'll be sure to go when the temps are lower than 103 degrees! Heat exhaustion sucks.

My pre-conceptions of Death Valley were soon blown away when I got there. What a great place! With seasonal temperatures well below normal I took the opportunity to ride a few of the dirt roads...

Hidden Valley -
Having not left Ubehebe Crater until 1730 I was running out of daylight to get across Snow Pass. It had snowed up there the previous night and the park ranger said she hadn't heard it was closed but neither had she heard of anyone crossing it either. After this photo was taken the trail got much narrower and eventually climbed a series of switchbacks lined with wild flowers but the sun had already dropped behind the ridgeline and the light was poor
[IMG][/IMG]

Snow Pass
[IMG][/IMG]

The trail was a little slick thanks to the melting snow and I eventually reached the pass 10 minutes after sunset. The view reminded me of being in the Chilean Andes.
[IMG][/IMG]

It was quite windy up top and so with an almost full moon I descended to 1600m and having seen nobody since leaving the crater I pitched my tent at the roadside and awoke to this.
[IMG][/IMG]

Further along I picked up the Saline Valley track

Not sure what's coming next as the weather in the NW is pants!

Please, no more pics for me, I can't take it anymore. If you do want to post make them all black first. You can do that quickly by taking any photo editing program and use the 'Fill' function.

Thanks.

Fantastic photos! What type of camera are you using??

EDIT - I see you're using a Nikon D80 (via SmugMug) - perhaps you can share your lens of choice?

Many thanks & happy trails!

Good on ya for taking a look at my smugmug gallery.

I use a Nikon 18-200VR zoom. For a while in South America I also carried a Sigma 10-20 but I seldom used it and for the first time I had problems with sensor dirt so I sold it.

The low light photos on top of Snow Pass were taken with my Sony HX5V pocket camera

There was a loud noise as though my exhaust header had broken so I stopped immediately only to find the mid-pipe mounting had shapped and the muffler mounting had ripped out of the muffler and the muffler/midpipe were sitting on the rear wheel! It was 102 F, there was no shade and I was 35 miles from the nearest road...arse. Bodge #3 got me to Moab where Fred at Arrowhead Motorsports (http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com/) let me camp in his yard (it was Sunday evening) and even cooked up the leftover burgers from the weekends rally (nice one Fred :freaky!!) then tried to track down a repair - no luck. Exhaust bandage and bungees has got me to Denver and now I'm seeking a long term repair/replacement.
[IMG][/IMG]

I rode over the railway line into Green River on I-70 and saw this, I couldn't stop laughing. Riding along with my broke exhaust all I could think of was "Who ya gonna call...!"
