Tranfering Maps - Question

    For those of you that have sold your GPS units, how easy is it to transfer the maps to the new owner?

    I've got a 76C that I'm thinking about selling or giving away and have City Select v6 & v7 that would go with the unit. The unit as well as it's maps are registered to me on Garmin's web site.

    What happens when I sell it? Does the new owner just install the maps, use my unlock code and everything is A-OK?

    Will they be able to register it on Garmin's web site no problem?

    Depends. I have been able to use a second unlock off my CS V7 onto my new 60csx when I bought it, even though I upgraded CS to CN.

    If the maps go with the original unit, you have no problem. If I were doing it, I guess I would personally transfer the maps to the unit I was selling, then sell the unit.

    I have no idea if Garmin's system is sophisticated enough that it would cause any problems if the new owner tried to upgrade from a prior version with a new one.

    Garmin will remove a unit and the associated maps from your myGarmin account so the next owner can register the unit. I did this with my recently sold 276C. The new owner wanted the latest NT mapset version and bought them, so the registration of previous mapset wasn't an issue for him.

    I also tried to get the second unlock code that came with my CN Europe, that I had used on the 276c, transferred to my 478 as I kept that disc but no dice. At this time once a mapset is unlocked to a specific unit it's for life.
