Fan F'n taskic, I gotta get me a KLR and go ride TAT. Love your laid back approach to the ride.:clap

    Steve

PS. For all you KLR riders, I've found 2 nice used in the area, an 07 and an 08, which would you choose and why?

Love this report, no big agenda or worry. I just picked up a KTM 640e and can't wait to get out on the TAT. Thanks for the great info and pics.

Is this done/doable on 4 wheels?
With a stock 4X4 truck or similar?

From east to west, it's all Jeepable until the mountains of Colorado. From there, lots of it is single-track.

What model Jeep are you talking about bro? I've fallen prey to the same temptation in my old age.

2006 Sport, I6, 6-speed, full amenities (cruise, etc). Bone stock except for the 31" MT's. Found it as a dirt-virgin garage queen and snagged it before some 18 year old ruined it.

I'm personally thinking of outfitting the TJ and doing the CDT - sort of a redo of the 2010 trip I did on the DR650.

I have a 98, same body style as yours. But I have stock tires. I May want to at least upgrade those. Mine is stock. I did Tennessee in it last year.

Years ago I worked construction and drove a Ford Ranger 4wd that had the same All-Terrain Goodyear's on it that came OEM on the Wrangler.

Part of my job involved clean-up and at least once a week I hauled a dump trailer load of stuff to the local landfill, and the climb to the top of the "mountain" was a bumpy, "claw your way up" the hillside chore on a dirt road that moved from week to week as the dozers covered stuff.

The Mud Terrains have a more hefty look but I can tell you the AT's are a very capable tire. When the MT's wear out I'll probably go back to the stock AT tires and be happy. And that same tire would be fine for what I rode in 2010.
