    Good spot...

It looks like there are about 130 tracks in there.

If you search by state or anything else you should get all the tracks that match the search. But that's not an excuse for not showing the lot on the front page. Although at some stage I will probably need to limit the number I show there as the page gets bigger.

I'll have to have a search to find out where the 100 limit is.

    Cheers

Yep, there are some that won't display.

You can usually still download them, but that doesn't help if you want to see them on the map with others.

I just checked the Maleny -Peachester one, and it looks like it is due to a measly little "&" in the description of one point. Apparently that is enough to stop it displaying. I'm relying on GoogleMaps displaying the KML version of the file, so if it ends up with text in it that Google doesn't like, it won't display.

I'll try to see if there is a common problem that I can filter out when I do the conversion. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of spare time at the moment to do it, so can't promise any quick fixes.

    Cheers

I was reading an RR report from Sth Africa and the way they were using Tracks For Africa and realised how invaluable this could be for not only ourselves but people planning on coming to tour Oz. We should get more behind the idea

    133. I just added another. Anyone travelling through the Pilbara send me a PM if you want info on any Pilbara tracks. Some are now threatened by mine operations and access may be denied. Some are not accessible on the tracks I have uploaded, but there are alternate routes.

Well that's nice, I didn't think I had fixed it as it was stuck on 100 even after I changed what I thought was the cause.

There's some nice looking tracks on there now. But we need more of the big ones, east west, north to south, sw to ne, and nw to se. So if you know anyone who has done one of these and kept a GPS record, get onto them.

Then I need to cull the tags down to a useful set, so if you ask for 'aus north south' you get a decent set of tracks you can choose from.

    Cheers

I'm certainly NOT going to give legal advice on this. I suspect it would depend on what the original form said when they gave you the route, eg 'no republication' etc. It might also depend on whether you are planning to upload the 'route' they gave you, or the 'track' you took, which I presume belongs to you, not them.

I don't want to get on anyone's wrong side by having tracks on Taut that belong to someone other than the uploader, so if in doubt, don't post it up.

B1, thanks for that, you've got a good collection on there now, well documented, waypoints annotated, great stuff.

Only problem is that the last one won't display, and a few others that I checked. Bit embarrassing, so thought I better investigate further. Turns out it is the &'s in the notes, eg fuel & accommodation. A bit of judicious editing of the notes and the last one now displays fine.

I'll run through the rest that are up there and fix them, Then need to work out how to get GPSBabel to stop mangling them.

    Cheers

Finally, after some prompting from XRman, I've made some little improvements to TAUT.

He wanted to be able to search for rides in his area, which is SW Vic near the border, but also include SE SA as well.

He suggested changing the titles, but I figured that was going to get real messy for long tracks.

So, I've added the ability to search by 'region' or even multiple regions.

What's a region I hear you ask. I've unilaterally decided that all states will henceforth have 9 regions, NW, N, NE, W, Central, E, SW, S and SE. Even little Tasmania, and that bloody odd-shaped Victoria. You tell me where NE, E and SE start and end there. Apart from ACT, which even I couldn't justify splitting into 9 regions.

Imagine 9 boxes distributed evenly over your favourite state, and you've got it.

But, given that no surveyor has ever said 'this is NSW NE, etc', where they start and end is fairly arbitrary, and the judges (me) decision is final. Is Sydney NSW E, or NSW SE.

As I figured it would be better to get tracks you didn't want, than miss tracks you did want, I've erred on the side of caution, and if in doubt, put a track in both boxes. I'm sure some of you will disagree with my allocation, but tough.

In the case of tracks like those following the Murray, I've even put them in the next State, so a track on the south side will also be in NSW regions.

As to how you search for the tracks, all I've done is add the regions to the States search, as you could already search for multiple states, so now you can search on any combination of states and/or regions.

We've now crept up to 155 tracks on TAUT, looking good. Working my way through them I'm sorely tempted to retire and get out riding. But there are a lot of gaps. So this is another call for you to load up your tracks, your country needs you, your fellow adventure riders need your tracks...

We also still have about 10 tracks that don't display on the maps, although they are still downloadable, and usable. I think I know what the problem is (&'s in the text) and will fix them next.

I've also changed the default display of tracks (when you first display the page, with no search), it will display the last 15 tracks loaded. Should make it quicker to load the page.

Many thanks to those who have taken the trouble to fill in the track descriptions, and add ride report links, it makes the track listings far more useful.

Next on the list of improvements, I'd like to change it so that you can show any track passing through a particular section of the map, rather than have to search by state or region. But that's going to require some significant work, so not sure when that will happen.

As always, happy to get your suggestions.
    Cheers
    Pete

Peter the reason I have not done my assignment is
    a) My ribs still hurts and the drugs cloud my concentration
    b) My wife insisted that I took her on a caravan trip
    c) I am visiting my grandson for his first birthday in Qld thsi weekend.
    d) all of the above.

    Answer d)

No need mate, I figured you had enough problems to deal with without having to edit 150 tracks. So I took my time to work through them.

Check it out, and see if it does what you wanted.
