do you have mapsource or basecamp?

you may need them to load to your zumo... not sure. I *think* there's a way to stick a gpx straight on the gps and then load it, but I don't know that method (I use mapsource)

Ok, please tell us exactly what you are doing.

Here is what is supposed to and does happen on my iMac running 10.8.2 -

I open Safari and navigate to the Trans-Mass Trail thread.

I click on the link and I get a stupidly ridiculous animation of the file flying from my browser window to the download folder in my doc.

I open my download folder and sure-enuff TMTv2.gpx is there.

If I am foolish enuff to click on it it opens as an XML file in XCode.

So ... Don't click on it! :deal

    Instead open BaseCamp.

Then do a File:Import and it will come into BaseCamp in a folder entitled "Recently imported from TMTv2.gpx" :clap

I'll give 10:1 odds that the snowmobilers have been through there in the last month. (and will still be using that section for a month to come) I was in the southern Berkshires yesterday and there's still 2 ft of snow everywhere.

It will be a while before you should think about going. I was in Otis 8 days ago (3/24/13)and there was still about 2' of snow in the woods. People still snowmobiling on the Reservoir. Many of the roads on the route aren't plowed in the winter and the snowmobiles have packed them to ice that will last for another 2 weeks in my estimation.

I live in the northern section, which is at a much lower elevation than Otis and Becket. Most of our snow is gone and the roads around here aren't too bad. I was on a very short seasonal road yesterday and it was muddy but passable. The roads that are maintained through the winter (the majority of the route) are okay around here. You could probably get some decent riding in with the expectation that you'd have to detour.

I live toward the southern section, around turnpike latitude, a few miles east of the TMT. Lots of snow still, and add to that about 1/4" more this morning (are you kidding me?). I would expect that we may have a mud season this year, possibly making the TMT a bit messy for a while after the snow is gone from the road. Interestingly, Becket has been resurfacing their dirt roads with some type of material that packs like cement. I suppose this spring will be the big test for how well it does.

I might do a ride out that way on Saturday and poke around. Obviously I'll pick and choose with detours if need be.

road a bit of the southern part of the Puppy trail from Greenfield to Brattleboro. Thought of going south into the trans MA but opted to go north. Puppy trail was good. A bit muddy on ames hill rd. Ran out of time and headed back to MA.
