    Hi there.

i am planning a trip between istanbul and Cologne in july. i have 12 days of time to comlete this trip. i want to ride through from Greece ( take ferry from igoumenitsa to Bari ) and my trip will start from there. this 12 days of time i have will start from there also. i have a meeting in Cologne and 3 days of my trip will pass in Cologne. So i have 9 days of time for riding.
My main goal is just riding with beatiful scenes.

can i have some suggestions about the route?
places with beatiful scenes and some alpine roads.

i planned some basic routes and it will be about 7000km.
in my basic plan Italy, Switzerland and Germany ( black forest route ) is the main route.

i am waiting for your advices and suggestions.

    Thank You..

I'd forget Italy and the ferry and ride up :)

From Bari to Cologne it's still, what? 2k? (the fast and boring way) and their coast road sucks (it's one tourist resort after another and so built up you can't see the sea) - you'd end up on the autostrada so, IMO, you'd be better off taking the ferry to Venice and riding from there.

But back to the "better" way :) From Istanbul head west until your feet get wet (Albania) then follow the Adriatic coast road, which is awesome, as far as you can and then bimble through Slovenia, Austria and into Germany.

Or, jump into Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary etc etc.

I was wondering what the ferry added to the trip. I like Catweasel's Venice idea one-way and ride back directly to Istanbul. You've then got three/four days Venice to Cologne and six/seven days Cologne to Istanbul.

Tacsizkral, I live in the North of Switzerland, next to the German border and very close to the black forest. I'm quite familiar with some of the roads in the area. Will try to suggest some routes in Switzerland/Germany in the next few days, but can't promise (these next two weeks I'm totally overloaded preparing things for my trip to Turkey and also working very long hours to leave everything ready at work before leaving).

Anyway, if in July when you pass this area I'm around (have to travel quite often for work), I'd love to meet you and invite you to a beer/coffee depending on the time of the day :D

wildman and catweasel, thank you for your advice. i searched the ferries to Venice and Ancona from igoumenitsa. i will buy a ticket for Ancona and will start the trip from there. it takes about nearly one day to Ancona. its more suitable for me.

i searched a litt bit about the route and mark some places like Garda Lake, Bormio and then to Davos and continue to Germany. i want to pass through some alpine roads in that area.

which route should i follow after? do you have any idea?

Marta: i will be waiting for your route tip for black forest if you have time ) Thank you.
