    I just finished building custom frames and panniers for a scrambler that will be traveling around the world. I put one of my 8" boxes on the exhaust side and a standard 9.5" on the other. Can't wait to see how they look AFTER the trip...

    Didn't stop for many pictures, but the scenery and the roads were great. Seems they have had a lot of rain this year, as everything is exceptionally green still. The three sisters ride was fantastic, and hardly any traffic on Tuesday - Thursday. Good times, and the scrambler made it more better :clap

    I always dremmel those little suckers off. Literally takes 5 seconds. I usually throw one wrap of electrical tape around the bar under the control for a snug fit. Then adjust controls to my liking.

    I haven't, although it looks interesting. A fair amount of 'out of stock' from what I see.
    And certain things can be sourced through US companies. Support US companies if you live in the US (Joker, Speed Merchant even MAS, yes Italian, has US stock).
    There are some interesting tidbits on the site. And the Italians do have a bit of flair for customizing.
    I have had decent results with a couple of purchases from Italy and the UK, oh and Australia too.
    Make sure your prices are set, shipping cost agreed on, and that it is actually in stock.
    You may be the guinea pig for us!

    I'll be following your trip, as my dream is to do a RTW on my scram too.

    Any more pics of the frames and how its mounted? Maybe give me some ideas to do mine.:wink:

    oooh, good tip. I dremmelled mine off a long time ago when I changed bars but the clutch side rotated round a touch since then.

    Dave, it's not my bike. I built this setup for a customer. I'm. Also planning to build him a custom aluminum box that will attach on the inside of the exhaust side frame, that will be used for tool storage. If you send me an email at gosolobox@gmail.com, I'd be happy to provide you with more pics of the frames. BTW, I of course "had to" take the scrambler out for a "test ride".:lol3. Awesome bike!!

    My bike went for bit of a swim.

    Just moved to the NW Virginia area and was exploring some of the dirt / gravel roads around my house. Found a pretty sweet creek crossing and didn't do enough investigating before trying to ford across.

    Got about 3 feet from the other side of the bank when the engine died - I was about knee high in water.

    Thankfully, I was able to push the bike the rest of the way out. I let it sit for a few minutes while I tried to get some pictures (phone died, sadly) of what was now clearly a RIVER in my mind.

    Pushed the start button and it tried, pulled the choke and the bike came to life. Fortunately, I was only 3 or so miles from the house and I got the bike home. I parked the bike and put it on its side stand and a wave came out of the left side cover.

    I pulled that out and there was standing water / oil mix in my air filter :1drink

    Drained the oil which was a nice creamy mocha color and pulled the air filter out and tried to soak up all the oil mix.

    Put new oil in and a dried air filter and bike doesn't seem to know it was semi submerged. No problem with electrics so far... I'll probably pull the seat up later and just double check. Maybe put some more grease on the connections.

    (for anyone interested, I have the EFI model)

    So...

    1) Bike rocks my socks. Can't believe it ran home after looking at it. Thing is a tank.
    2) Clean up ideas? I've changed the oil once. Thinking of changing it and the filter again and then running it fairly hot to burn off any water.

    Yes, I would definitely change the oil again. In fact, it is generally recommended to change it several times after an incident like that.

    Should I run it at all between changes or just run oil through to run oil through?

    Hi RJF. Congrats on your purchase. Guaranteed you'll be very happy with your new ride. The great thing with the 900 Scrambler is that you'll make it your own (with time) in the modifications (big or small) that suit your personality and riding style. If I must be honest this is the bike for me right now! Just loving it and I'm sure you will too (as we all do. that's why we're here).

    I'd run it a few minutes between changes to help pick up as much of the water as possible. I'd also use the cheapest oil I could find until you're satisfied things are clean and then go to your normal oil. You shouldn't have any damage at all as long as you get the moisture out of the internals quickly.

    Drained it one more time but when I let it run again I noticed the headers are glowing red :eek1

    I'm hoping it was because the bike was stationary at about 3k rpms and it was dark out.

    Anyone ever had any experience with the Procom igniter ?


    I lost spark on the right cylinder this weekend. After checking everything it looks like the igniter has failed. No way in hell am I going to spend $670 for the Triumph replacement unit.

    I was gonna complain about getting a 3" nail stuck in my rear tire and having to wait 4 hours for my buddy to come truck me out, but after that tale about the amphibious Scrambler, I'll just count my blessings over an Arrogant Bastard Ale.

    But, hey, how did the river water get mixed with the oil? If it went through the air intake, what route did it take to get into the oil pan? Right past the rings? (I'm no engine expert!)

    I'm just about to replace my trailwings with Dunlop TR91s, following extensive internet research! For thos intersted, here is an email i just sent to dunlop about the correct size to use. (you lot might know the answers actally!)
