Any help, tips, pointers would be appreciated. TIA
Have you ever used MapSource before? There is a small learning curve, but once you master it you can plot very extensive routes.
I'd suggest opening a new route, clicking on your home town, then clicking on Buena Vista, VA. Continue clicking as necessary on the Blue Ridge Parkway until you get off to go to Johnson City.
Depending on your settings (fastest time vs shortest distance, your major/minor highway settings and your avoids) you will find that MapSource will require the use of anywhere from just a few to quite a few via points to keep you on your desired route.
When clicking on roads, you must take care to click on the correct side of a divided highway, the exact road you want going through a town, etc., etc. The GPS will take you EXACTLY where you tell MapSource you want to go.
Time taken learning how to program MapSource will be time well spent. Being able to enter customized routes into a Garmin GPS is probably the best feature of the higher end Garmin GPSs.
